OK folks, there have been a few to many diesel vs gas threads that have shall we say gone to "Hell and a hand basket"! So if all of you would put in you BEST, no flaming reasons for going gas vs diesel, pro and con, I will either leave your thread, or copy and paste pertinant info to the 4 posts of pro and con of diesel or gas. This can include the GM 8.1 vs Dmax or Ford V-8/10 vs PSD etc too.

Be real and honest in you answers, not hear say, flaming etc PLEASE!

If posts are good ones, I will leave, if inflamatory or trolling in nature, they will be deleted! I will get this stick'd to the top for future parusing for those that need this type of info.

Stuff like Ken's - T-Bone posts are good. There are a few others of you that have not posted, some with a 9 point question and answer type to figure out how you went with one or the other. If you are one of those, PLEASE repost in this thread. I may have to look up whom has done this and PM you, but if you think this is you, you now know what to do.

Also, for those of you with $ per gallon for either fuel right now, I would prefer to see a post with ...."in my area, diesel is typically .10 less than unleaded" then explain your numbers. As currently in the Seattle area, diesel and unleaded are any where from 2.05 -2.30 per gallon, with mid test .10 more and premium about .20 more, with equal high low splits. Two weeks ago those prices were upwards of .30 -.40 per gallon more. people were posting $ per gallon that were for me. "I wish" If someone is reading your post a year from now, they may want to know where your paying 1.65, when the price of fuel is over $3 per gallon. Let's keep prices out of it if possible.

Bert and tin tipi, got into a good discusion on the pros and cons of RPM's, drive train etc. I would prefer to NOT see the quote of the other in responding threads, maybe just write a quick wording of re tranny gearing, instead of the whole 40 words or so in that paragragh, so the repsonse is shorter if possible quicker and easier to read etc.

I have deleted some 15+/- posts, that were off topic etc. Please note, I am trying to keep this at the top, as the ONLY gas/diesel thread in this area. So if one is trying to decide, we do not have to go thru this BS any more. As such, I will be deleting ANY future posts close to resembling this type of topic. I may have to change "this" title to a better one, if one has a better sounding title, to be more positive, better claification, let me know here, or in a PM/e-mail, what ever you feel most comfortible with.

Again thank you for all of you that are keeping responses positive, etc.

Also we could use a few more positive reasons to go gas, as many can see I have both gas and diesel, both have a place! Both have positive reasons to buy that fuel, lets keep the threads etc to that purpose only!

This thread had been inactive since early May. And you saw the need to resurrect it? With a post that had nothing to do with diesel or gasoline? Why?

if you are going to tow heavy or do a lot of mountain driving then diesel is clearly the better choice. diesels produce lots of torque and relatively little heat. heat is what kills engines and most mechanical devices. torgue is what maintains speed. every over-the-road truck is a diesel. construction equipment that runs all day as well as generators are all diesels for the same reason. diesels (especially duramax and fords 2011 superduty) are relatively luxurious diesel engines but they are still designed more for work than pleasure. but if you are only towing a 3500# trailer in Iowa then gas would work fine

I'm in the process of purchasing a 2011 F250 and in researching the diesel versus gasoline engines read a bit of this thread and found it more of a waste of time considering the volumes of dialogue wandering all over the map, if people want to argue or get into a gabfest why don't they just exchange personal contact info.
I know it's my choice whether I read it or not but I've come to appreciate and respect the wealth of info that our friends from across North America have accumulated and are so willing to share that it's a pity seeing it lost in such a marathon.

I think the moderators have given up too. I agree the thread is out of control. Lets kill it and call it good.

He's wrong. I also had a diesel Escort, a 1984. The engine is a 2.0 litre Mazda diesel.

FWIW, non turbocharged diesel engines are referred to as NATURALLY ASPIRATED.

Sure it was a Mitsu and not a Mazda? Ford and Mazda, GM and Isuzu and Chrysler and Mitsubishi were paired up back then with a lot of rebadged vehicles. Just askin'...

My FIL, used to be a salesman for a grocery wholesale company up here in Canada. He did this for better than 10 years. His vehicle for travelling his route to some pretty remote places all through northern Manitoba, Sask, and AB. was an mid 80's Ford escort with a Mitsubishi non turbo diesel. He said he retired the car with more than 400k miles on it without any major service. He said he also averaged close to 50mpg HWY imperial in the summer and a little less in the winter.

BTW he said they only took it out of service due to rust and the inside of the car was getting pretty run down.

My '84 Isuzu diesel P'up with it's 27~mpg city and 38mpg highway 2.4L NA diesel went 288k miles before I traded it for a full size Ford to pull our camper. They were phased out due to emissions. It was a stinky little smoker but just wouldn't die. A Ranger with a Mazda 4cyl TD would surely be a hit. Maybe.

Now I get it. I agree with that 100%!
I had an old Datsun PU with a 4banger diesel in it. it was one stout little truck!
I see Mahindra has a small diesel pu here now.

I meant it's about time we saw more small diesel vehicles in the U.S.A.

(Such as the the VW TDI, smaller SUV's, etc.)

I said "it's about time" because there is a very limited selection right now.
