Do you have a bed liner?

We are in the process of considering a new truck and reviewing options. I asked one question on another matter earlier, but I'm also wondering about bed liners. Are they needed? Our bed will be empty 98% of the time. With the exception of a load from Home Depot now and then, it will see very little use.

I'm just not sure how delicate the finish is. Do you have a liner? Do you think it's essential?

This is our first pick-up, so these are new questions to us.

If you are going to get one, the spray/paint on over the slide in...We had a slide in and the ridges were killer on the knees if you had to crawl in.

After all the myriad of opinions, this is it.
If you don't care about scratches, get a bed mat so stuff doesn't slide around and call it a day.
If you're using it like a car trunk then the bed rug things are cute, as long as the tonneau cover is 100% waterproof.
If you use it like a truck or are concerned about the cosmetics of the inside of the bed, get it sprayed.
But whatever you do, don't use the apply it yourself at home stuff. Some are ok, but there's a lot of work in prep unless you're prepared for that and most/all of them aren't as durable as commercial liners

Yup 100% difference between baking 24/7/365 in the sun down south vs the wet PNW or a vehicle that is garaged.

My Dodge Ram dashboard isn't cracked/falling to pieces nor are any if the other trim pieces

You must have some ocean front property in Arizona too... :W

Here's our 05 about a year ago. The top of the dash is just about gone now.

This truck really needed a dashboard cover more so than a bed mat when it was new to prevent such a disaster.

ford f 150 2005 used pretty hard. have sprayed in X liner best money I ever spent on a truck ,93k on it now and the liner is in great shape.

I've had my truck for 17 years, and the first 12 I had no liner. It only had about 1/2 the paint left on the bed floor. The wife kept telling me to get a spray in to make it look better. About 5 years ago I had it sprayed, and it made the truck looks 10 years newer.

Your not gonna hurt anything not having a liner, it's just really personal preference. I will say the black liner is much hotter onyour hands than the white paint was.

I have had more than 10 new pickups in the last 12 years. Only two were kept longer than a year, the others were 4 to 11 months. Some did not have anything, some had bed liner, some had factory spray in liner. The pickups with no liner had paint scratched out of the bed. The ones with liners showed limited wear. The spray in liners showed no wear.

The factory spray does not prevent sliding like aftermarket spray liners.

However, if I order my own truck, it would have the factory spray liner and factory puck gooseneck/fifthwheel prep with a roll up bed cover.

My F250 has a plastic liner that was installed new by the dealership. It has been great. Two reasons I wanted it over spray in.... 1. cost, plastic liner was included in deal, would have had to pay extra for spray. 2. The thick, ribbed plastic liner helps to protect the bed from getting dented.

My plastic liner was custom fit to the truck, so I've not had any issues with it moving or anything like that.

Hauling landscaping timbers, materials, tools, etc the bed has been great.

If I wasn't using my truck as I do, I would rather have a spray in liner. They look cleaner and neater.

I’ve had spray in, fitted rubber bed mats and nothing at all. I prefer nothing, the mat second and my least favorite is the spray in. I like that things slide easier in a metal bed, makes loading and unloading easier. If I don’t want the load to move, I tie it down. I say start with nothing, if you don’t like that try a bed mat, if you don’t like that, try a spray in. You can always add a spray in, kind of hard to take one out.

I have a rubber bed mat. Does the bed get beat up? Only if you actually use the truck for more than groceries. Figured I could always add a spray in liner if the finish got that bad. 18 years later do you think I care anymore? I don't really. Still an option if desired.

I have a bed rug and a flip top soft tonneau cover. Works great for me.

I load the bed with camping stuff and other stuff that comes in handy..

I don't use it for hauling dirt or wood or anything.. I have a little 8' utility trailer for that kind of stuff.

Anyway, bed rug fits the bill for me.
