Dodge 1500 Diesel

Has anyone had any experience with the 1/2 ton Dodge diesel? I am currently towing aprox. 5000 Lbs with a 2012 Hemi. Milage is generally poor (9-10 mpg) and the tranny shifts a lot. I would like to improve performance and milage and wondered if the 1/2 ton diesel would do both. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I just picked up a RAM (not a Dodge, since they and Ram Trucks split back a few years now) 1500 with the 3.0l diesel. I have not towed with it, but with the Green Diesel Tune, I am getting on either side of 30 highway with it. Head on over to Ram1500diesel.com and lots of friendly people will assist you in answering your questions.

The Global Versions with the 8,000lb tow ratings and roughly 2,500lb payloads get slightly more than that, converting to US figures

As long as this interesting topic has been successfully derailed.........

From the Merriam Webster online dictionary:

Angst

noun \?ä?(k)st, ?a?(k)st\

A strong feeling of being worried or nervous : a feeling of anxiety about your life or situation.

Don, do you have a feeling of anxiety about your life or situation? Didn't think so.

I appreciate the advice, observations and opinions. Lots of great folks to contact via RV.NET when questions arise. After considering all and doing some research, I have decided to go with a 3/4 ton diesel. Not because the 1/2 ton would not handle 5K but because we may want to upgrade to a bigger RV. Again, thanks for the help.

Relevant article on Ram 1500 diesel vs. Ecoboost

Just an observation. Per the article:

3.0-liter EcoDiesel

240 horsepower at 3,600 rpm
420 pound-feet at 2,000 rpm
400 pound-feet from 1,900 to 3,500 rpm
**************
Think they have a typo. That is not mathematically possible since max HP is 240. That should probably read 400lb from 1900 to 3000 rpms.

400LB tq at 3500rpms would be 266hp...more than the stated max. The most torque the ED can produce at 3500 rpms is 360lbs. (240max hp*5252/3500rpms)

Based on 240HP:
240hp at 3600RPMS = 350lbs tq
at 4000rpms less than 315lbs tq
at 4500rpms less than 280lbs tq
at 4800rpms (redline) less than 262lbs tq

As long as Troy is around it will always be this way. The guy doesn't contribute anything useful and only bashes anything FCA. Just look at his post history, every time a Ram/FCA thread is closed it's because he has derailed it with his hatred of FCA vehicles. The Admin should do something about it IMO.

Dons on the other hand is full of hatred and angst. I comment that the gassers of all brands is more economical than a ecodiesel and the angst takes over. I recall the last thread that got locked don was the last participant errrr basher.

The OP has got his answer so this thread now needs to b locked
