Down sized

I just down sized big time, had a 34ft travel trailer and went to a 22ft Winnebago Micro Minnie. My wife and I felt we did not need all that trailer and like how this fits in my drive for loading and unloading.

I also posted about the very same thing recently.

Just this week we downsized from a 39' 5th wheel to a 26' travel trailer. I cannot believe how much stuff we accumulated after upsizing over and over. I counted 8 cookbooks, 7 flyswatters, dinner service for 16, 8 lawn chairs and 10 puzzles, 5 decks of cards, a partridge in a pear tree, etc.? What the? It was enjoyable to sift through that pile and carefully choose only what we needed in the new camper.

"The Ark" now contains two of everything, but with exception of 4 of a few items in the case where we have guests. It feels fresh, clean and roomier than the 5th wheel. And now looking forward to going places the other one couldn't go.

Agreed, your new camper sure is purty!

My wife and I have had this debate forever. Our kids are now 21 and 24, and we figured they would move out and not camp with us any more. No such luck. ๐Ÿ™‚

So two years ago we actually upsized to a 28' TT and we apparently made the right decision (although my wife still stresses when I'm backing the TT into a site or at home).

For the first time ever, we parked the TT at a CG for the month of August. So far we have gotten a lot of use out of it, both my wife and I, as well as my two daughters, and some other relatives as well.

The TT has the oversized bunks which work well with older kids, and sometimes us or other adults. And for us, the queen size bed is a must.

The 28' TT works well for us, because due to my medical situation and work schedule, we cannot take extended long distance trips, so this size is manageable. But I can see the benefit of downsizing if it is just going to be 2 people and you take frequent trips.

BTW - that Minnie is gorgeous!

I always dreamed about a large 5th wheel such as a New Horizon or DRV when I retire. I have come to realize that a mid size TT fits where I like to camp a lot better. I like the maneuverability of a smaller trailer as well.

Try this: push mattress away from head of bed. Lay a body pillow in the cavity then put your bed pillows on top of that. In the daytime, remove body pillow and push mattress back to head of bed. Body pillow can be used as a toss pillow on your bed.

When we were looking at the floor plan on line we thought maybe one could install the std. queen bed but there is just not enough room to get around the bed if you did that. So there are enough other features like LED lights, aluminum wheels, shocks, 66 gallon water tank, solar ready etc, that kept this one in the race for us. Even so, our old trailer's bed isn't as wide and this one and was the same length, so we are able to live with it just fine.

We down sized from a 35 foot motorhome to a 29 foot trailer. That was tough to do.
I will miss all that outside and inside storage. I will also miss the generator.
A lot of advantages of a MH over a trailer. The MH was getting some age and I was not using it enough to justify the transmission and engine repairs and maintenance. But the trailer also has an advantage over the MH in that I can use my P/U after we get to the destination instead of a small car.

Jim, congratulations on the new 2106FBS. So far we have logged 4157 miles on our Minnie Winnie 2101DS. It has been great and I highly recommend the Minnie line of trailers. There is a long running thread on Winnebago Minnie towables here. You will find a lot of tips, hints, and photos. Sure not trying to take anything away from RV.NET because it is one of my favorites.

We up sized to a 22 foot with a small slide. More then enough room, Our only regret is we would like two recliners instead of a jack knife couch. There is only two of us and once a year we take the two grandkids for a week. But the wife and I like each other a lot and enjoy spending time together.

We went from a 32 ft down to a 21 ft 4 years ago. It was a good fit for us. Admittedly on very rainy days it can get small. But we camp to spend time outside. We added a canopy to allow us to stay out even when it rained. We have had NO regrets.

I took a look at your floor plan and it's really interesting ...

Our 2014 Freedom Express 192RBS had a short queen bed as well, especially annoying now that the current 2016 models have a full length 80" bed. :S Would you have enough room at the end of the bed to extend the bed platform as I did (7 pics)? :@ It's not quite as good as a full length bed but much better than having my feet hanging over the edge of a short queen mattress. :B

I had a 27' class C, and it had a split bath, so there was plenty of room to get dressed between the two curtains in the hallway.

Now I have a 30' motorhome, and it also has a huge bathroom. I hope that everything works out for you. I did like the ability to park it on small parking spaces in the grocery stores while out traveling around. Now I have a tow car, and sort of miss the smaller RV,

Goof luck,

Fred.

Well, my wife and I have done the same thing. I have always desired to have the smallest trailer that has everything I want. Our previous trailer, a 25 ft. Nomad Bunkhouse served us many years with our kids. Now it's just us so we purchased a new Creekside 20fq from Outdoors RV manufacturing. It has a walk around short queen:( and a large u-shaped dinette in the back with a massive window. The only thing I wish it had is standard queen. We have been working on the inside "making it ours". Can't wait to put that little guy behind the new Duramax!
