Electric Tongue Jack advice

Here we go... I am looking to put an electric tongue jack on my new Coachman Freedom Express 29SE, tongue weight <800 lbs.

I am going to go with a 3500, just wondering what brands are dependable and if there are any I should stay away from?

Thank you so much! Hey, I'm a newbie....

Suggest spending a few minutes looking on Ebay. Lots of folks, including us, have bought from them, saved a bunch of $$ and have a great jack. Seems like the one we had on our HTT was a refurb Ultra 3500 and we never had any issues....except the time DH ran it past the stopping point and blew the fuse. The one we got for our TT was brand new....maybe another Ultra, but can't remember. For the HTT cost was right at $100 and that was in '07. The one we got this spring was about $130. I would not be at all concerned about a refurb...they're factory refurb and as good as or better than a new one since all the oops are gone.

I also have the Barker 3500 VIP 24". The extra stroke helps with hitching and unhitching the trailer.

I have this from eTrailer-- http://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Jack/Husky/HT87247.html Great power, and built to last.

I had a Bull Dog, it was a nice jack. I now have a Barker VIP 3500, it's a very well made jack, it's made in the USA.

I have the barker. The big reason for going with this brand was at the time, it was the only that offered the extended lift. Really comes in handy. If not for this, any of the larger named brands would be fine.

You mentioned your trailers tongue weight. You probably already know this but because no one mentioned it, the real weight of concern is the total weight the unit has to lift when raising the trailer AND truck so the spring bars can be attached. We've not had a problem with our Atwood unit but the combined weight exceeded our Class VI/V hitch to the point where it eventually bent up. We've replaced the hitch with a beefer unit BUT this lesson brought home to us the significant total weight this jack needs to contend with.

Great advice, thank you all! Haven't made up my mind in brand yet but it's certainly going to be my first mod. Thanks again, and thing Spring!

I purchased a 3500" electric tongue jack from Camping World last year that I regret. The tube that extends out from the main tube and the "foot" had the structural integrity of an beer can. The metal was to thin and would not support the weight of the trailer. JH

Ultrafab here too. Been very happy with it and GREAT customer service when I overextended it once and broke an internal pin.

I guess I'm missing something. Mine didn't have a hole in the tongue for a jack. The whole thing bolts on into the V in the tongue. Bolts right into the holes the original one used. Flange and all.

I've only heard of one posting where someone had to take a file to the hole. I believe things are pretty standardized OR I'm extremely lucky. Give it shot, live on the edge. Buy one, on sale, and hope it fits. If it doesn't, your down to return charges, maybe. Went from a 1:3 chance to a 1:2 chance with a simple return, becuase it was too large.

Very helpful, thanks! Barker, Atwood and UltraFab seem like the big 3. Now, I have to figure out what size hole my Coachmen Freedom Express has (which is 100 miles away in NH!)
