Engine flush

would it hurt to do an engine flush on my Chevy 6.0 ? I have run Mobil One since 20k. I noticed my lifters are a little noisier now that it has 210,000 miles. I am due for an oil change and was considering Seafoam or possibly the old timers way of adding some kerosene ad letting it idle for 10-15 minutes. Or should I just change the oil ?

Not a believer in additives - but in my Audi mechanic suggested adding some Magic Mystery Oil and sure enough it quieted down. Go figure.

Let your engine drain overnight!

I have 240K on a 99 Tahoe 5.7 still runs GREAT. I run AMZ/OIL Diesel Marine NON LE 15-40 I change it every 10k or so.

Your engine is probable VERY clean inside, a flush may do more harm than good.

The best way to flush out an engine is to change the oil run it 200 miles and do it again......then do it again, you will be suprised how long the oil stays clean the third time, I always do it to any truck I buy with some miles on it.


I run 20/50 castroil in anything with higher miles, I maybe lucky but have never had a problem.

5-6,000 miles. Mostly highway because I drive 45 miles one way to work. I run Mobil One high mileage 5x30 oil and an AC/Delco filter.

Lots of opinions, but I'd try Hot Shot Secret Stiction Remover at next oil change. Orig designed for use in diesels, but works in gas engines as well. Go to their web site for more info. Money back guarantee---can't beat that. Or call them and ask for their opinion as well and see what they recommend.

Don’t add or do any thing extra. Maybe try a different filter. How often do you change your oil?

Also certain oil filters cause this... I only use the delcos from advanced auto. When I used the purolator's on my current 06 I get some noise .


I run mobile 1 and run 1 qt trans fluid once a year... 95K on odometer.

IMy 96 had a sticky lifter @ 170k miles. Twice a year I added 1 qt trans fluid to the oil when I was a qt low just before an oil change.

Drive it for a couple hundred miles. It will clear those lifters and the weep holes hopefully.

If that dont work pull the covers and spray some blaster down the rods to clear lifters..

Don't use that snake oil. If you want to do something to clean it out, just use good oil and change it more often. I bought an older vehicle that had been neglected and changed the oil about every 1k miles for a few times. It came out nasty the first few changes, too.

Better to slowly dissolve any deposits and take them to the oil filter rather than put solvent in there and suddenly break it all loose.

Make sure your PCV system is good too.
