Ford 6.2 L opinions

I'm looking at trading up maybe within the next year or two, and was wondering what the consensus is on the performance of the 6.2L in an F250/350 supercab/crewcab. Don't want a diesel, so not going there.

While IDK for certain, I remember reading, that the newer 250 6.2s were using up the left over lighter duty 150 6-speed transmissions, after they went to the 10-speed.

I bought one earlier this year and haven't logged very many miles but so far so good. In all of my research before buying I didn't find any negatives. If you aren't pulling a very heavy camper you should be ok.

Like was said before the 2017 transmission has been downgraded. It may be work out to be great but I'm leery of something new and unproven.

Read nothing but good things about it. I wouldn't hesitate to own one.

I been towing with the F250 crew cab at once a year thru the smokies since 2012 (10K fifth wheel). I ordered a 2 wheel drive with the 430 diffy. The only problem with it is that is not red. :B Think the tranny is great.

however alex brought up something that I have not paid much attention to. Didn't they downgrade the trans in the F250 somewhere along the line?

if you're buying a new truck, go strait to the F350 with the beefier transmission, otherwise find the right unit at the right price on the used market.

You will like the added power of the 6.2, compared to the 5.4! What you will really notice, is the great transmission. It does a super job, keeping the 6.2 power where it needs to be, and lets you manually control things, to suit your needs, when you want.

My work truck is a F350 with the 6.2, definitely a stout engine and transmission.

We tow the same TT as you. The f250 6.2l 6 speed with 3.73's tows fine. There are some hills where it down shifts however all considered its a great TV. the 298 loaded is almost 4 tons, so im very happy with this trucks performance. Eventually we will sell the 298 and get a 5th wheel. Thats why we bought this truck

I've towed 10k with mine for the last 4 years. Love it. Had a '08 V10 before that. It tows just as good or maybe a bit better than the V10

I lock out 6th and use tow haul most of the time.

Fuel mileage is usually 8-9. It loves to work.

Only issue I've had was an exhaust manifold.

Bout as good as you'll get with a gasser. Have had 2, not high miles, but zero issues with both. Transmission is spot on for towing as well.

I think the Hemi has a few more ponies, not sure where the old 6.0 Chebby stands right now, but they're all similar in power and final drive ratios will make more difference than the power diff between them IMO.
