I hear a lot of bad press on the ecoboost. Does anyone here pull with one and what as your experience been with it. Would you buy it again? I just can't make up my mind on it.

The torque curve is among the sweet things about the Ecoboost, no winding up to 4K rpms in order to pull. 2K does nicely!

In reality somewhere between 2200-2400 lbs depending on options if you get the hd payload package. I had ~1850 on mine with max tow only.

I've had mine for just over a year now and do miss my Dmax when it comes to towing but am not completely disappointed with the ecoboost. We did a 4500km trip this past summer 2013 Vacation route The only problem I encountered was the trany temp hitting 230F on the digital display pulling slowly through CO with an out side temp of 67F, while the gauge was reading norm. I also had some concerns on long down hill grades that only allow 25mph. I had to ride the brakes quite a bit and the engine braking had little to no effect in 1st/2nd gear. It is quite able to pull I find and altitude didn't affect its ability. If I was able to go back, I'm still not sure I would have kept the Dmax for the the 5/52 weeks we pull in a year, especially in winter where we reach -35C frequently with a 7km commute to work one way.....

I'm a brand new owner and haven't towed yet. 400 miles left in my break in.

But for unloaded driving, it is many leaps beyond my old truck.

You can find the issues to read about, but I wouldn't have said that it was getting lots of bad press...quite the opposite.

Well the Ram still runs a 6 cyl inline 6.7 liter diesel best towing engine out there!

I watched this forum for quite awhile before making my decision to buy the truck in my signature. I read a lot of posts from many different folks who where happy with their rigs. One fellow who was not happy was in Texas and dealt with a lot of wind. He had no complaints about the engine, but he went back to a larger truck for greater weight / stability.

I have had it about 18 months and 14k miles. No issues of any kind and it rains in Oregon on occasion :).

Good luck,
Stu

p.s. I am not aware of any F150 Ecoboost owners with 10 years and 150,000 miles yet, however I hope to continue to read about happy owners for many more years. This goes for all makes and models.

Google ecoboost problems, and you will see many with 13s still having intercooler moisture limp mode issues. Just spent an hour last night reading about it, so for a problem that has been well know for a while has not been fixed on 5 month old trucks ????? That's weird.

There was a lot of bad press in the beginning because of injector failures and a lack of replacement parts. I would think that they have those ironed out by now though.

What bad press? The stalling issue mentioned above that happens in extremely limited circumstances, and that was easily cured with a change in the outlet tube of the CAC (at no cost to the owner), or the issue about coil packs that weren't actually bad but was instead a programming issue? Maybe you're thinking about one of the other manufacturers that are jumping on the "eco" bandwagon, now that Ford has hit a home run with those three little letters. Chevy even has a model called the Eco now, but its being recalled due to fires. Then there's the new EcoDiesel from Fiat/Ram that won't even be available until next month, so there's no real world experience there.

Had my truck out west in September, pulled that trailer up over the Rockies to over 10,000 feet and had PLENTY of power left. It's smooth, quiet, dependable, great fuel mileage. I just wish Ford would make an EcoBoost model for the Super Duties, maybe a turbo'ed 5.0?

The only bad thing I had happen was one of the two bottom panels fell off while in the Rockies. That was caused by a new oil change guy at a dealer not installing it correctly two days earlier. The Ford dealer in Durango put it back on for me, didn't even charge to do it. Great dealership there in Durango.
