Gotta wonder if Ford woulda released this truck if Ram hadn't come out with the EcoDiesel first.

I think all the big 3 were snakebit after developing the baby diesels years ago only to pull the plug on the idea. Add the strict current diesel emission requirements and general advancements in gasoline engines made the decision to go forward again more difficult. Dodge/Ram probably had the most to gain with less to lose launching first baby diesel and it worked out nicely for them. I personally don't think I would choose a diesel in a half ton but having that choice and competition is nice.

Because not everyone needs a 3/4+ ton truck. You don't buy a 6 bedroom home if you only need 3 bedrooms do you?

You do if you and your wife wants 4 kids, office and sewing room, and she's smoking hot and ready and willing to breed with you.

I don't really care for diesels, but it is a good idea for Ford to offer it.

I do find it funny that excuses were made about why diesels were not a good idea in light duty pickups after Ram's Ecodiesel came out, and now Ford decides to offer one in the F150. In similar fashion, excuses were made as to why the Ranger was discontinued (slow seller, market dried up, etc.) and now they are planning to bring it back after seeing the success of the new Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon. Ford makes incredible trucks, and the F series trucks will probably always be the top sellers in the industry, but I just find it amusing how they change their mind about certain offerings.

Regardless, I think Ford is making a great choice to offer this engine. It will sell very well.

Never been one for 'just enough' for this kind of thing...more so when life & limb
are on the line...

Just about anything 'can do it'...on the good days...all things designed/engineered
are NOT for those good days out there...but for the worst day when Mr Murphy
crosses your path...

But, that is just me and my opinion on these things...note that there is a
half ton in my stable. IT was the 'HD' version of it's era with a 6.2K GVWR but
did not buy it...dad gave it to me after he retired (owned a small

I with you on that! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Though, I would still buy one if I were in the market for a new truck.

Why not just buy a F250 with the 6.7 diesel motor, a lot more truck for about the same price. My F250 with the 6.7 gets 19-20 MPG, can tow 14,000 lbs, has 400HP, 800 Ft/lbs. rides like a Cadillac. We call it our Redneck Cadillac.

Not everyone needs that capability. The F150 comparably equipped should be several thousand less than a 250/350. The diesel 150 will likely get close to 30 mpg on the highway.
