Anybody replaced the factory 26 Gallon tank on there F250? If so what brand and how easy or hard, I am looking at putting in a 50 Gallon and getting a tool box for the bed, I don't think there is enough storage with a combo unit. Thanks

Installed a Transferflow 50 gallon tank in place of stock tank. Took a little doing in garage, but got-r-done. Able to go at least 400 miles when towing before needing fuel (10 gallons left at 10 pmg). Am sooooooo much happier it was on for our trip down south recently.

I've had several short bed trucks and always had a box tank in the bed for more capacity. I did not regret getting the tanks. I did always have it installed by the dealer that sold me the tank. I now have a long bed, and have plenty of capacity without the extra tank.

Yeah, 26 gallons is a little skimpy for a working truck.

Ford's 2011 Brochure (page 14) (http://www.ford.com/services/assets/Brochure?make=Ford&model=SuperDuty&year=2011) lists some fuel capacities up to 37.5 gallons, sorta depending on wheelbase:
Fuel tank โ€” 26-gallon capacity (F-250/F-350 137-in., 142-in. and 156-in. WB with diesel engine)
Fuel tank โ€” 35-gallon capacity (gas engine only) ???
Fuel tank โ€” 37.5-gallon capacity (F-250/F-350 158-in. and 172-in. WB with diesel engine, and F-450)

The older F-250's, say year 2000, had 38 gallons for std cab (available w/8' box only), and a shade more capacity than 26, at 29 gallons for both shortbox extracab or crewcab trucks. Both longbox extracab or crewcab had 38 gallons again. Source: https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas/non-html/2000/bbfsd00a.pdf (ex: my 2000 crewcab shortbox on page 10).

Only problem I had with mine was the fuel gauge "thing" was off. Not sure why but the first time I got down to "21 miles until empty", I ran out of fuel on I-85 doing 70 mph pulling my 20' enclosed trailer on a Sunday night 100 miles from home.

Amazingly, Ford paid for the tow to the nearest dealer since the truck was still in the 3/36 warranty. I even told them why it happened but they said I was still covered.

From 2011 up the CC SB trucks had one 26 gallon thimble.

There is no need to pull the bed to replace with a Titan tank, it's rather easy. Using ratchet straps to lower and raise the tanks makes it a one man job. The worst part of the install is connecting the hoses and wires above the tank. Find someone with tiny hands. See the video mentioned above.

A few things that I did different than the standard install.
#1 The front bracket has a bolt head that comes real close to the tank. I countersunk the bracket and used a flat head screw.
#2 The added vent that goes up beside the fill pipe is open, so I made a sock from foam air filter material for a lawn mower to keep debris out.
#3 Using the original bolts with the thicker brackets leaves less thread engagement. Consider getting bolts slightly longer.

Take the completed truck to a Ford dealer and have it programmed for 50 gallons. If you have a run of 20+ MPG and fill up, it's great seeing that 999 miles to empty.

I wouldn't buy the shield again, is makes a skrunch sound from time to time. Also, I believe that it is a stone collector that might cause problems if a stone starts chewing away at the tank wall.

I wonder if it wouldn't pay to remove the box for installation? With just a few bolts and simple wire harness unplug, this definately does pay for just a fuel pump replacement since a heavy, partially filled tank need not be disturbed. But here the entire old tank must come off anyway. Offhand, hoses and wiring are a piece of cake with the box off. The empty box itself is pretty light with two guys grasping under the wheel wells and easily lifting them off.

The new tanks are fairly pricey and I usually prefer to stop every 100 miles anyway. Yet extra capacity would be handy on long rural trips away from main highways and typical fuel availability. Anybody know off-hand if a used Ford Excursion 44 gallon tank will fit an F-250 with the spare tire removed?

I did a Titan by myself years ago on my '09 F350. It took a little while but was worth it.

Now I just put auxiliary tanks in the bed. Just had this one put in my 350 earlier this week. Now a fill-up gets me over 120 gallons. Looks sharp and I still get a shallow tool box.

very close to OEM, real pain to install yourself unless you have a lift... we did one my brothers F350, took a few hours...
