Looks like GM is setting the stage for a potential HP & Torque increase over the competition. :B

My parents have a 05 with about 45k miles. It probably won't last that long either since they tore up the tailgate when they thought the pin was locked on the 5ver. They started to pull the trailer out of the shop and bam!

I tend to get low oil pressure warnings when pulling in temps above 80 degrees when the coolant goes over 215 degrees. Its when I have to let off the throttle and the truck goes back to idle. It only flashes low oil pressure for a second. An oil thickener like Lucas does help keep the oil pressure up.

My 98 does that, it's the oil pressure sending unit. My new 98 does the same thing. I have checked the pressure with a manual gauge and the pressure is fine.

Hard to believe that light duty Duramax could last that long! :W

I suppose if it were a medium duty engine it would have needed a rebuild already? :h

He secretly runs AMZ/OIL 😉

I had a new 98 but it wasn't new in 99, just 98. Problem is it didn't want to leave our garage but it was a simple fix.

Unfortunate for users that this torque and horsepower war in going on. My Duramax engine produces 765 lb ft of torque and 397 horsepower. I do not meed more power by any stretch of the imagination and if I needed more in towing capability I would go to a 2-ton truck with a stronger frame, better brakes, etc.

Better fuel economy would be something I would be interested in and only Ram seems to be providing anything that matters with its 8-speed transmissions and half size diesel engines for its 1/2 ton pickups.

Even the military, and these boys are hardly rocket scientists, are pushing for better fuel economy from the next generation of expensive toys they are planning to buy.

So real diesels are six cylinder? I had a Mercedes Benz 5 cylinder diesel years ago. I guess I was robbed.

Did the Lucas solve the low oil pressure problem (~516,000)?

That's a lot of miles, more than I will ever put on a vehicle.
