Pulled the trigger on a new TV yesterday (more on that later), so I want to pay a tribute to my 2003 F150, which has been traded in.

I still remember the day we met. You were calling to me from the car lot. "Buy me, I won't let you down". You were a special edition in honor of Ford's 100 year anniversary as noted on your side emblems 1903-2003. I checked your window sticker; "Tow Package". tow rating; 12,500 GCWR. "yup" I said to myself, should tow the Prowler just fine, and you did. You were my daily driver for 4 years and over 100,000 miles. Never let me down. When I hooked the 6,000 lb trailer up for camping trips, you never let me down. When I took you on hunting trips from Washigton state to Montana, and went places I probably had no business going, you never let me down. Fishing trips near and far, smae thing. When I had projects to do around the house and needed everything from lumber, gravel, rocks, and dirt you hauled em all, and never let me down. When the next trailer came along, it was actually smaller. About 4,500 lbs. You gladly hauled it to the washington coast, or over mountain passes, and never let me down. Six months ago we bought the third trailer that has been in your life. A 2011 Jayco 256RKS. GVWR 7600 lbs. You've given us four camping trips towing it. Never let me down. It's now been 10 years since that day you spoke to me on the car lot and your ticker says 151800 miles, and though you still run like a champ, I could tell on the last trip that you were struggling a bit. Even so, You didn't let me down. So rather than run you into the ground I'm going to pass you on to someone who hopefully will love you as much as I have. I know you won't let them down. Good bye 'ole girl.

So raise a glass of blue Koolaid in a toast to my beloved old truck. In all my years, she's been the best vehicle I've ever had. I'm gonna miss her.

Two nice looking trucks you have there!!

By chance did the old truck move the same 30,000 lb loads of hay? (Yes, serious question)

Thanks

Thanks. The old one still looks pretty descent up against most trucks on the road today, but twenty years ago it turned heads and won compliments everywhere it went. It towed some heavy loads (maybe 15,000 lbs), hauled livestock regularly, yanked semis out of snow drifts, raked hay, lived through three different holiday trailers and was our Sunday going to town truck on the weekend, but no, it never towed the kind of weight the Ford does. It hasn't been used much since 2004 when I got my 1st Duramax.

There is always self-therapy, you can get reacquainted, show her just how much you truly care for her. Maybe pick her up a nice full syn oil change of the 5W30 or 5W40? Give her a nice warm bath followed by a hot wax!

I picked up my girl parts for a full front and rear brake job for Saturday morning. All NAPA premium rotors, calipers, pads, new hardware, rubber lines and even new emg brake shoes. Then a full brake fluid change with DOT 5 fluid. Why? She has 138,000+ and I like to be proactive not reactive. Parts cost me just over $700 but had I had this done at a shop, the bill would most likely be about $3,000. Treat them right and they will treat you right and from the looks of her and your post, you already know that.

Dear Nohurry,
Sure I've got a few years on me, but just look at me. We were great together - and now you want to "trade up"? Those new models are pricey and soooo plastic. You had substance in me...depth...reliability. You are gonna be sorry...you could have at least tried sending me to rehab.Your Old Girl

Thanks, that made me smile. I know the new ones are pricey, but have you priced the rehab clinics lately?!

As far as the diesel goes, the LAST thing I want is for this thread to become gas vs. diesel, so we'll just let that rest for now.

What a well written and heart felt tribute to a wonderful girl! She deserved a good partner like you. You took care of her and she took care of you.

I suspect the next female truck in your life will get the same fine care. However, some of the younger ones are more complicated and have more bells and whistles. I hope your next truck is just as faithful and that she never lets you down as well.

I felt the same way about my '96 Escort, which I used strictly for commuting to work. Drove her for 10+ years without any issues outside the ordinary. Probably would have gotten another 3-4 years out of her, but a dude in a dump truck had other ideas. Even after the front end was pushed into my lap, she still started back up and limped off the road. RIP, old girl.
