Happy/Sad day

Sold the truck camper yesterday. Got more than I paid for it after more than 2 years of use. It was just getting too small for our family of 4. I'll miss it and I have a feeling it is not the last truck camper I will own.

When I was cleaning it out getting it ready to sell my 5 year old twin boys came out and asked what I was doing. When I told them I was getting ready to sell it they both immediately said "no you can't sell it! How are we going to go camping now?"

I told them we can still camp in a tent or...

we can use this.

It is a 1977 Apollo motorhome on a dodge m500 chassis. GVWR of 14,000lbs. Has a newly rebuilt fuel injected 440 V8 and a 2 speed rear end out of a dump truck.

I feel a lot better driving this than my maxed out 1/2 ton I was using to haul the camper before. Plus even though it is only 26 feet long it feels cavernous inside compared to the lance. I let the kids go inside and check it out and got two big smiles and 4 thumbs up.

I'll miss my camper but just wanted to say thanks to all the posters on this forum and the help and knowledge I have received. I don't post much but read the forum almost everyday and was able properly maintain, repair, and upgrade the camper thanks to the info I got here and can say the next owner got a great camper with 0 problems and will enjoy many happy years of camping ahead of them.

Thanks and MERRY CHRISTMAS

Here's some interior pics. Definitely needs some updating. New curtains and upholstery are coming soon.

A little later I am planning on completely redoing all the woodwork and paneling. I am a professional cabinetmaker with my own business and just can't deal with the faux 70's walnut.

Very cool! Looks similar to the one that was posted here a little while back by mountainkowboy that had been converted to 4WD. Sounds like a beast!

Looks to be in great shape, Congrads! As a veteran camper you know on a ugly, rainy day, and the four of you are stuck inside........it will be so much better!

I can imagine how you feel about selling something the kids associate with some really good times. Just so I'm not to be confused with someone who actually knows about that stuff, my experiences are from what I've seen and not based on some school of higher education. Focus on the experiences of camping and they will come to know the Apollo in the same way. By the by, that is a sweet looking old coach. Love the looks of it. I'm sure your kids will have plenty of new memories in it over the years ahead too.
Stay safe there and Happy New Year to you and yours.

Yes it does look like it's in great shape. The happy boys make it worth it and the parting of your tc becomes less stressful.
I think that will work well for you, it's small enough to still fit into tighter sites, enjoy .

Congratulations! Camping with kids is awesome, but you do need lots of room. Not having room to sleep everyone without lowering the dining room table is a pain. While most time is spent outside, it's also nice to be able to watch a little TV at night or on a rainy day.

That looks pretty cool and in good shape for its age. Sounds like substantial running gear. Can you post some photos of the inside?

Enjoy it, especially with those boys!

I owned a Class A 1978 Vogue 26' rear bath, that also utilized the Dodge frame/engine. My Father bought used when it was 2 years old, immediately pulled the 440 V8 out of it, and installed a straight-six Isuzu diesel engine in it. The 26' Class A is a perfect size for a small 'A' in my opinion. I sold it in 1991.
