Having done automotive engineering help for all the Big 3 trucks, vans, and SUV's by invite for nearly 4 decades, I knew and know which is the best and longest lasting mechanical and least rusting vehicles to buy and that's what I/we have done. Both for my business and personal use and have enjoyed the benefits!
Used to have at least 6 vehicles at any given time and put extreme miles on them before replacing which usually only took around 6-7 years and sold them for decent value yet as we take care of our vehicles well and they always looked new even inside and out with lots of year around miles on them of which most were highway mile.
However, now long retired and cut our vehicle fleet down to only 3, an HD diesel truck, and 2 SUV's. Wife doesn't want her 2005 Chevy Trailblazer 4.2L bought new replace that she replaced her Fancy Cadillac with as I've tried several times. So she still drives and loves it and it's been bullet proof for very close to 200,000 miles now.
As has been our 2004.5 Chevy 2500HD Duramax crew cab long box 4X4 truck that now has just over 200,000 miles. The truck ordered new has only been used to pull our big 3 axle very heavy 36" Carriage 5th wheel with 2 slides for years until a falling tree crushed it in 2007 and now our smaller 29" Carriage Carrilite 5th wheel or one of the 2 Lance truck campers we had. Still have the 11'4" Lance legend and use it a lot on the truck. Only repairs ever done to the truck were a new fuel pressure sensor last fall and new front brake pads at roughly 125K before we went on a long trip and a couple burned out light bulbs replaced. Rear bake pads are still original and still have plenty left. As bullet proof as you can get and it is so comfortable to drive and ride in with more power than ever needed and still looks new inside and out with no rust at all, so why replace it?
Many years ago, we'd buy new vehicles about every roughly 4 years but that got very old as my life was "vehicle stuff" about 6 days every week and family driving a vehicle on the 7th and lots of pulling RV's and/or boats. In our 53rd year of RV'ing and our 55th year of trailerable boating beside our larger non-trailerable berthed boats, sail and power big cabined boats.
The thread Answer: Hopefully the same vehicle we have and use until we stop driving in another maybe 20 years or more as we are only about 75-1/2 yrs old each now and still going strong! Our main vehicles are just nicely broken in presently as we thankfully knew which vehicles to buy many years ago! Just do it right and it's done right and you reap the rewards!
