How often do you rotate tires?

Just read the thread where a guy was complaining about terrible tire life with general tires. I have a 1 ton dually 2 wheel drive 2007 Dodge Ram and I get 80,000-85,000 miles out of the General tires. I think the key is rotating the fronts to the back every 10,000-12,000 miles. I will rotate the fronts to the right rear and 10,000-12,000 miles later put the fronts on the left rear.
Another thing that I do is I only run 55-60 PSI in the rears even with towing a 13,000 pound fifth wheel. I do run 70 PSI in the front.

One is supposed to rotate tires?!?!?!? you must have the same tread front and rear then eh! My single wheel rigs I rotate, BOTH duallies have traction on the rear, and a hwy on the front. Not too good to rotate in that kinda use. ALong with the fronts are a different size width wise than the rears. Same diam, So I suppose I could run the wider ones on the rear with the skinny ones.........

I also heard a rumour I am supposed to balance the rear duals too!?!?!?!????? hmmmmmm, or trailer tires also! hmmmmmmmmmmmm

On our SUV's I rotate tires once a year. In fall I install true Winter tires, in spring back to All Season tires. Easy to rotate front to back each time. Note I have extra wheels, so it is just roll out and bolt off/on.

That is one draw back to after market wheels, no rotation front to back. But I rotate the winter tires each year.

The Michelin LTX A/S tires on my '05 2500HD Ram 4X2 got rotated twice in the 100k miles I owned them. They wore very evenly front and rear. My well maintained F250 as well as previous Fords with their twin I-beam IFS and friction LSD have all worn tires faster than my Mopars. At 62k miles, my Continentals are ready to retire. I might find out how the MIchelin LTX A/S tires do on the F250.

I don't rotate the truck tires.

Fronts and rears usually wear about same......and at roughly 60,000 miles I replace with new. On second set.

But I am towing every week.......in between tows rears are aired down to 50# and back up to 80# for towing. Fronts are 60# all the time.

Yeah I was gonna post in the "General Ameritacs are******thread"

Stayed out of it because I've had 3 sets of those and always put over 40K on each set.
My first set were on a Ford F250 towing a trailer and we saw 50K on them.

I believe you are right about tire rotation.
If I may also add with re-balancing and correct toe on the front end any tire will give good service.

IMHO many think the big trucks are built like tanks...sadly not troo most are running close the limits and should be cared for with diligence.

I rotate my 7yo 65k+ mile tires whenever I see a difference in front to rear wear.

So far, only once.

Just had a new set put on my truck, they said to bring it in every 5,000 miles and they would rotate them FOR FREE.

Mine get rotated every oil change, no questions asked.......I don't even have to tell Heather, the service writer, she does it automatically, as there is NO extra charge for the service at our dealership.

Rotate my truck tires at 10k (every oil change), and have adopted this practice with the other two vehicles (05 Beetle, 05 Escape, rotate tires at every oil change that is between 6-8k).

I find way too many people will blame the tires for poor tread life because they don't maintain the other aspects of the vehicle that severely affect tire performance. Air pressure being #1, followed closely by alignments, tire balancing, and worn shocks or suspension components.

I know Dodge put super cheap shock on my truck from the factory and they caused the tires to cup and wear prematurely. They were shot by 20K miles. I had the alignment checked and installed Bilsteins, now I get about 70K out of a set of tires.
