It almost happened

A little back story -

I own and routinely drive 2 vehicles.. a 2016 5.0 F-150.. and a 2015 6.7 F-350 Diesel...

Going to visit one of our other offices the other day , traffic was really bothering me.. I pulled into the rest stop , got a cup of coffee and rolled to the fuel pumps...

As I opened the fuel door , with the green nozzle in my hand , I WOKE UP and remembered I was in my F-150

THAT WAS CLOSE ! Too close for comfort to be truthful

Not really that big of a deal except for removing the diesel from your tank.

From my experiance diesel in a gas truck or gas in a diesel doesn't just kill the truck or cost thousands to fix like auto dealers like you to believe. Out of probably a dozen pickups that have had the wrong fuel put in them all I have ever had done was draining the fuel tank of the wrong fuel and refilling with the right fuel. If the mistake was caught after only pumping a few gallons the tank is just filled the rest of the way with the right fuel and kept full for a few 1000 miles to dilute the wrong fuel as much as possible.

I deal with this at least once a summer.

The incidence happened in the first months of the truck being new. I had no trouble with the truck since and sold it 5 years later with 100,000 miles on it. I was fortunate I guess. I suppose if a person puts gasoline in their diesel truck and brings it to the dealer, the dealer would change the fuel system and I suppose the owner would most likely have their insurance cover the cost....so they would be out the deductible. I guess if they don't bring it in and a problem shows up 3 months later it might be hard to get the insurance to look after the bill?

^^^^ This is so true. Filled up at a BP station out of necessity about a month ago and their gas nozzles are green. It took me a second to realize that I needed a black nozzle for their diesel. I had to do a sniff test before I trusted the nozzle. And yes both gas and diesel were the same size. :E

I filled my 2011 Powerstroke with gas. After getting about a mile from the service station it started pinging something terrible. I drove it another 3 or 4 miles to a friend's place where I unhooked the hose under the hood at the secondary fuel filter. I got my wife to meet me there with a Jerry can of diesel. I spliced a hose onto the supply line under the hood and put that hose directly into my wife's Acura. I turned the truck's ignition to run and filled up my wife's car. Then I filled up my friend's gasoline pickup. Then poured the Jerry can of diesel into the truck and carried on. Had I contacted a Ford garage I would have had a $20,000 bill to pay.

I put diesel in my old GM dually, which had a 454... Fortunately, that truck had 2 gas tanks.

My last 2 welding trucks have been diesel, while the welder runs on gas. I have caught myself about to put gas in the truck, or diesel in the welder...

when we were in Ireland, we had a diesel rental.. pulled into station, grab the green handle and started pumping. a man asked if I knew I was putting regular gas in my diesel car. I said it has a green handle. He said I must be an American. over there it is green for gas. opposite from us.

Yes, two sizes of diesel nozzles. The large one and my pickup don't get along at all so I look for the smaller one. Runs too fast and air gets trapped and the diesel runs down the side of the pickup as it shuts off. Dirty enough with out fighting the larger nozzle.
Welcome to my home, that door you just broke down was there for your protection not mine.

X2 ?

Around here they are only bigger at truck stops. The regular gas stations here have the same size nozzels for both as many people have Jettas etc that burn diesel.
