Just seeking opinions on a used Duramax

I just bought my wife a new car two weeks ago and saw this truck on the used car lot. For some reason I keep thinking about it. I currently tow a 8K travel trailer with a 2000 Ford Excursion V10, but have always wanted a true truck for multiple reasons. I have never owned a diesel, but I do know that some Duramax motors are more desirable than others. Anyone have an opinion or random thoughts about this year and model? Thanks for any response and I apologize if I am beating a dead horse in regards to the topic.

Finally took a photo and took this truck on it's maiden voyage. All I can say is wow. Should have listened to you diesel fan boys long ago.

Well I went to test drive the 05 Chevy today and did not like it at all. It looked good on the outside but the ride was rough and the front end felt a little squishy. They also had a 09 Ram 3500 on the lot but as soon as my family sat inside they all said no way. I was originally looking for something decent in the sub 20K range, but I'm a sucker for pretty white things so I ended buying a 2012 Ford F250 6.7 CC Lariat. Thanks for all the replies on the original topic.

Obviously some of you guys haven't read the OP update. :R

Congrats on the Super Duty it's a towing beast. :B

Slightly off topic sorry OP but maybe of help for you. Those of you that do drive an LLY what in your opinion constitutes "overheating"? I drive a 04.5 model year and my fan will start grabbing air when I'm up a hill on a hot day but the temp will stabilize at around 220f or so then go back down. I do have the intake mods for my motor. To me, an overheat would constitute a pegged needle in the red zone. Thanks.

I just traded in my 05 lly for a 2011 3500Hd dually. I was the original owner and it had 128,000 miles on it. Never had it in to the shop for anything. Pulled my huge new 5th wheel down the road with no problem other than the 3500lb hitch weight was a little too much for it. I had put the LBZ intake on it, the egr delete, and the PCV re-route. The fan did kick in more than I liked. It had 19.5's, a new Ranch Hand Legend front bumper, air lift air bags, and was still tight. I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. Any way, it was not 4 wheel drive, which hurt my trade in. I got 12,500.00 for it. Probably could got a bit more if I had not traded, but not much. The dual wheels, LML and 6 speed allison on the 2011 are pretty sweet.....If I were pulling a trailer or smaller 5th wheel I would still have it.

Higher mileage in a Texas truck is waayy better than lower mileage in one from the rust belt. BTW, I had my newly purchased (at the time) 10 year old truck shipped up from San Antonio. I would never consider a 10 year old truck with 164,000 miles to be "High Mileage"! that is only 16,000 miles a year! Likely many of those miles are highway which is far better for the diesel than city miles short distance.

yup. I passed my 95S10 to my son, he sold it with 260K on the odo, still running fine when I passed by 04.5 duramax with 125K miles on it to him when I picked up the 2015 Denali.

yes, by 250K the s10 had gone through a radiator, an alternator, a water pump, a set of shocks, and a few other things that wore out, but it was still pretty tight and rattle free and running good. Used about 1qt of oil every 4K miles, transmission was still in good shape.

Did eat brake pads, they lasted about 25-30K miles, unlike the duramax that at 125K miles still has about 1/2 the pad material left.
