Long Bed 1 ton SRW with dual slider?

I've been doing a lot of research (on this forum mainly) about necessary modifications and what people are realistically doing with the SRW trucks and truck campers.

I've come to the realization that I will be putting 19.5's on, adding overload springs, and all that other good stuff in order to be safe and have a nice ride.

The Lance 1050s looks like a nice way to go since it seems to be the lightest dry bath (requirement) with a slider.

What I'm wondering is if there is a TC that has a rear slider for a couch, or more simply put, 2 different seating areas (to help break up the group and make everyone not feel as cramped and on top of each other) that a SRW can realistically haul?

I'd want to be able to put 2 dirt bikes on the hitch as well, and if it were more than 2, I'd tow a trailer.

Any advice would be mucho appreciated. thanks.

I'm pretty happy with the Host Everest 11.5 on a SRW truck - plenty of mods, but it works. Sounds like you have a good plan though now.

I'm finally going to sell the Host in favor of a more roomy 5th wheel. The boat will have to stay home or come with a separate tow vehicle.

I'm glad my setup will work with a little work!! I stopped by three tire stores and the local Ford dealer today trying to get info on 19.5 wheels for a 2012 F350 SRW, no luck. I'm very happy with my Host!

Guys,

Thanks for all the insight and replies. I think the best bet is to just run the Lance 1050s for off road camping and like a member earlier suggested, dirty dirt bikers are gonna need more room than any TC can support, so I will just pull a TH when the boys come out, and use the TC for the wife and kid (to come).

Thanks for everything peoples!!

As I posted before, the fact that you want to haul toys and a TC is the reason many are pushing you to a DRW. Scale back your TC size so you have less extension off the rear and can use more of your capacity.

I have 2011 chevy 3500 1 ton also. My camper is 11'3" and also about 3700 pounds loaded and wet. I too feel I am at my limits with this setup. If you are planning on a heavier camper that is gonna be pushing things. JMHO

Always buy a DRW even though you ask for advice on SRWs. That's super helpful. It's a wonder they even sell SRWs ... sheesh.

Dry weight of a Lance 1050s with no options ie... A/C is 3030 lbs, not much more than my loaded Northern Lite 10cdse, My SRW Dodge handles the weight just fine. I toad a Jeep Jk and trailer Utv's, not at the same time. The alternative TC's with rear slides and more than one slide, that have been mentioned, would be heavier than I feel comfortable with using my truck or a one ton dually, especially adding the additional load with the tongue weight of a trailer.

An eagle cap with a rear slide for example adds 1,500 to 2.000 pounds of camper weight.

SoCalDesertRider nailed it. A 450 dually is the right truck for the proposed camper set-up. A trailer/toy hauler is the most economical option.

Flat out, no bones about it, you need a dually to do what you're proposing, preferably an '08-'09 F450, which have 14K GVWR and 11K RGAWR.

x2 a stock dually may very well be cheaper than optioning out a SRW with a ton of aftermarket items that STILL WIL NOT do the job of a dually.

Maybe the a 1050s will work for the first part of the kids being around. and if we need to get something bigger, I can always get a toy hauler (and get off the beaten path with our toys vs TC

If a SRW is the truck you want/need .....Why not get the toy hauler now ? Scrap the TC idea for now .

or as Bedlam suggests, a small camper , maybe with no hang-over, flat to the end of the trucks bed. Then add a light trailer .

The newer SRWs have a much better payload capacity than the older models. My 2012 Ford F350 Diesel 4X4 long bed has a cargo capacity of 3500 lbs. That is out of the box. I too and looking at a few modifications and a Lance 992 for our next camper.

If selecting a SRW vehicle, you will have to compromise on the TC if you want to haul toys. I have a short bed camper with a 24" extension so I can tow heavy and I would not be able to do this without my truck modifications. Although the tongue weight can approach 1000 lbs with a WDH I can split it up between axles or even repack the trailer to reduce it. The net effect on the rear axle is still less than what you asking of a SRW.

Have you considered a smaller TC with an enclosed trailer? When the trailer is emptied, it becomes a man cave or overflow sleeping space. I even carry extra LPG, fuel, fresh water and gray water tanks in the trailer to extend dry camping trips.

I have a one ton Ford SRW diesel 4x4 and I won't put my Avion on it. It weighs about 2,900# wet, and it is too much for that truck. You really need a dually. With the high GVW on the newer duallys, they are really the way to go if you want a full size camper. Adding the bikes to the mix and a dually is really necessary. It doesn't matter what accessories you put on a 1 ton SRW truck, it isn't going to be enough.

Avion,
I find that interesting that your one ton Ford finds a 2,900# camper too much to handle. I carry a Northstar Igloo (that wet is around 3,000#) on my 1997 Chevy 3/4HD (super springs and helwig sway bar) and it handles it beautifully. I know that I wouldn't want to go any heavier with my rig.

Here's my setup with a 300# dual sport, 75# carrier on a 32" Superhitch extension plugged into a Superhitch. Extensive research and number crunching to get to this setup, which is within a few hundred lbs. of the RAWR. With close to a 5K lb. camper (dual slide) this IMHO is right at what a 2013 Chevy 3500HD dually can do. Others may say more is possible, but I've driven this combination and it works, but wouldn't want any more weight hanging out there. Do not even think of doing this with a SRW, otherwise, you're just asking for trouble.

Best bet for that kind of weight, in Ford, is going to be a F350 4x2 regular cab in XL trim with no options. Rated capacity is still way below what DRW will give you. It is not just tires either, brakes and other components are different.
