Original post--
You know, I got to thinkin. Those of you who know me know that's dangerous. This is only a thought, I thought I'd throw it out there.

All of us travel. Duh, that's why we have campers. Who all would be interested in putting there names on a list of "Members Welcome". A list of members that welcomes other members to stay the night in their driveway when they're on the road.

Of course, opting-in would be completely optional. My thought here is that a list is done up with only screen names. When a member is planning on being in the area, they forum-email the other member for the address and see if that member is available to welcome guests that night. That way, the address is not out in the public and no unexpected surprises happen.

Just a thought.

Edited 1-6-2014

We are going to clean out the list and start a new one. Go to the post dated 1-3-2014 for more info.

Here is the latest "cleaned up" list.

And yes, it's a screenshot, not a text-list. Sorry. The forum doesn't support any kind of formatting, like tables or tabs, so when I tried to list it as text it looked like a jumbled mess.

So I'm starting up the list. There's a lot of good replies. I decided to put together some "rules/suggestions" based on the feedback given.

* Sending a PM will be the mandatory way of organizing this
* Personal info-address, phone #, should not be posted on the open forums by either party
* So as to not overstay your welcome, this is understood as being good for one night only, unless otherwise pre-arranged
* At least 48-72 hours notice should be given prior to your planned arrival, for several reasons. I personally don't check in here every day.
* If repairs/service is needed, ask prior to arriving. Some communities don't allow driveway repairs

Several of you offered up multiple locations. What I'd like to get is where the locations are---town and state, and specifically what amenities - water, power, dump.

So the running list I have based off this thread is:
(and if anyone can clean up the formatting, chime in--tab didn't seem to work to make columns)

Well if anyone is in the area visiting Joshua Tree NP or just passing through, feel free to give me a holler. I'm in 29 Palms, CA and have a level yard and can run a 15A cord out to you. While I have met a couple of people off of here the only overnighter so far has been jimandsue60.

The invitation is even extended to those of you with hardsides. LOL

Steve, If your camper is in your trucks bed you'll fit in our driveway. Just follow I-40 east till you get here... we'll shoe-horn you in and hook you up to the 30 amp. This is a nice area...

I slid a MH in place of one of the truck campers once... it was hard to do...

What a great idea! We are an hour west of Boston, but since nobody wants to drive in Boston (unless they have a death wish) someone could park here and take the train in for a day of sightseeing - or just see the local sites. PM only. We can run an extension from the barn, and have a flat place to park, but no dump site.

Ok, so everyone so far has a place for someone to stay including me So I will start the other side of this. Our continuing quest to visit every state will bring us to South Carolina this spring. Will probably leave home around April 9, traveling through Pa. and NC. We are in the process of figuring out what we want to see. So far the Capital, some military sites, Charleston and maybe Myrtle beach if its not too crowded.

We had the pleasure yesterday of a PM from a t/c forum member from Colorado. He will be in our area in about a week or 10 days traveling through after picking up his new camper north east of us.

He will be hooking up to our 30 amp recepticle... a nice gift in the winter or summer... because it was 32 degrees here this morning, the cube heater will be invaluable.

I'll let him post his plans...

We are excited.

boatycall... your thread is working. thank you

Were in by the PM method. We have 120 Acres in Hocking Hills 55 miles SE of Columbus Ohio. This is a great area for hikers, bikers (both types of bikes) with lots of great scenery. We can provide power water and a place to dump near the house and a great spot to boondock in the woods on the ridge.

We are around for anyone who needs 15amp and nearby place to dump, or just has a problem.

I'm an hour south of Wilmington and an hour north of Myrtle Beach right on the coast.

PM only.

count me in.
Ive got plenty of off-street parking, level, and can run a extension cord and water. hopefully I'll get the dump station in sometime soon.
on edit- YaHOooo! dump station is now in the driveway, YEA!!!

we are 10 minutes from Disneyland, 15 minutes from the ocean, 90 minutes to the mountains, and 2 hrs to the desert.
(P.S.- 5 minutes to Walmart, LOL), and all I charge is a warm smile, and maybe a cold brew :W

another thought to this might be, that if a traveling rig just needs to stop off for a quick repair, or dump ststion, water, or to go to the local grocery store, who can make available a spot to park just for a quick supply's run.
Happy trails,
Ron

P.S.- If you smell wood burning, or see smoke,
don't worry, It's just me trying to think

I would opt in for this (PM method) I have 15 amp electric, water and a place to dump a portable tank, as well as an acre or so of land to hang out at. (working on an actual dump station) It would be a great to get to know some of us in a "pick and choose" way. I am up in the mountains and the view from the spot in my driveway is of the lake.. Folks love staying in my camper here and say it's just like camping!:B You have to be really good at backing up though (175' driveway up hill on a curve..) Course, it's winter now and snow on the ground... this could be fun!

I think its a great idea and kudos to you that basically do this already. I am a bit jealous though, since my community will not let me participate. Someday when I get that piece of land outside of Florida I will contribute what I can.

I agree and that's why I think it should be done by PM but you have to know who to PM so there should be some sort of thread or list so you know who is willing.
