New tow rig!

Hey guys,

About a week and a half ago I traded my 15 Silverado CCSB 4x4, 5.3/3.42 LT, on a 2017 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4, CCSB.

A year and a half ago when i bought the Chevy i talked myself out of needing (wanting) a 3/4 ton truck. (I only tow heavy 8 times per year, etc).

My Chevy was a decent truck, i don't have much bad to say about it. I didn't like all the torque management that GM puts in their trucks. I didn't like the clunky downshifts, cold start engine noise GM said was normal, didn't like the lazy, laggy throttle response. But those are minor complaints. It was a good truck.

It had a lot of options i didn't want or need like the 7" touch screen, navigation, heated leather seats, etc.

The dodge is a basic HD work truck and i like that. What it came down to, is the Chevy dealer wanted around $1200 to put the trailer tow mirrors on my truck. The slip on aftermarket Tow mirrors I was using Were horrible. I had very poor rear visibility With them so they had To go. To upgrade the P series tires would have been around $900, and then I'd still have a 1/2 ton truck. I just couldn't see doing that.

I looked at all 3 trucks and crawling all around under all 3, i just liked the dodge best all around. I've always loved the big rig styling of the ram that dodge debued in 1994. I'm glad they have stuck with that.

This is my first new Mopar I have owned. I had a 1997 Ram 2500 and i liked that truck. We're looking at some larger trailers (7500 gvwr and over 29' long) and my Chevy would have pulled it, but i think I'd be right at or over my payload limit, so i figured while the Chevy had good trade in value yet, make the move now.

All 3 have pros and cons. I just liked the dodge best all around. So far I really love it. It's twice the truck my 1500 was and it really sits up. I really wanted a white truck when i got my Chevy, but couldn't find one with the other options i wanted, so i settled. The dodge is white.

So after a year and a half, I finally got what i really wanted. Wish me luck guys. I hope out it gives me good service.

Probably off the lot most will be white although I did see two red ones when I was shopping. Mine is in Western Brown:

Hey, that's my truck, but parked in someone else's garage!

Is white the only color for the Tradesman?

Use the oil that meets the specs required by your vehicle, manual should state. There should be several brands available, use the one you like that meets the spec.

Enjoy the new truck, my '15 RAM has been very nice.. not HD like yours but my TT fully loaded is just a tad over 3,000#.. 😉

I believe the Pennzoil is the only oil with the Chrysler specification for the OP engine and is required for the 6.4 hemi and SRT branded hemi and not the 5.7 hemi. If any engine related failure would occur, I can assure you the oil receipts will be requested before any warranty repair is approved.

There's other 0W40 oils on the market that are probably as good or better than the Pennzoil but I wouldn't use them.

The oil spec is 0w- 40 and meeting mopar spec ms-1264 or something like that, which from what I've read is just to get you to buy oil from shell/Pennzoil

I'll probably run it though to avoid any warranty issues down the line

I've got a Tradesman too, great truck with minimal fluff options that I don't need, nor did I want to pay for. The 6.4 is a great engine, lots of power and you don't have the maintenance issues of a diesel.

Hope you like it and find the ride a little more comfortable!

Thanks. I'm really enjoying it so far. The 1500 Silverado had an excellent ride though. I have to admit that. The 6.4 has plenty of juice, no doubt about it 🙂

Thanks Jim. I have the tradesman also, i don't need or want all the fancy stuff my Silverado had. I'm a simple country man and i like my trucks that way.
