We recently picked up this 1994 Coachmen 070-SD and we are heading to the Smokey Mountains (Bryson city, NC) for a few days on our very first TC outing in the morning. I have been searching the forum here for 6 weeks in preparation and I think we got it all figured out (fingers crossed). It's a 4 1/2 hour drive from Durham, NC and I plan to take it real easy on the road. Wish us luck and I will be away from the computer for a few days so forgive me for not responding to your comments. Yep, that's a 904lb camper on a 2009 Ford Ranger (with tow package). I plan to stop by the local gravel pit and weigh it on the way out, should be well under the 4,761 gvwr total weight limit. My best estimate is I'm about 400lbs under. I hope the pics post??

What a nice little setup-congrats and enjoy.

This proves you don't have to go big to have fun!

That's a nice looking setup. AC too. Sort of a Yankee version of Sabconsulting's rig. Have a great trip and don't forget to post pictures.

Welcome to the forum. Nice looking rig--though I'm guessing that camper weighs a lot more than 900 lbs dry.

As for the air bags and your complaint about a bumpy ride: Try running them at various pressures and see what works best.

Have a fun trip.

I bought it from an elderly couple in Saginaw, MI for $2,600. The camper is in very good condition and everything works fine. The interior is in amazing condition, however the exterior has silicon slapped on everywhere. The trip from Saginaw to NC went real smooth. Very little sway and it handled well. I was only going 60-65 though. My older brother is a long time TC guy, he has a big rig set up (diesel, dually ect.). He took mine out for a spin and said it handled almost as good as his. I have to say, I don't like the air bags, I'm feeling every little bump in the road it seems.
Thanks for all the encouraging words and advise. I will post my weight when I get back. At any rate, it's a good starter setup. Vic

Good looking rig you have there and a nice truck also. Have fun, be safe and enjoy every moment. Looks as though your camper has been well taken care of and you're going to have a wonderful trip. Tell us how it went when you get back.

I'm not a Ford fan but that's a sharp looking truck.
Please post back with your weights, hopefully each axle. I'm very curious to see how good a guesser you are and if you are in fact under the weight ratings.

I hope you have a great trip. Our fall colors really starting "popping" this week and it was beautiful outside today. We are expecting some nasty weather tomorrow night though. Get hunkered down somewhere and make some popcorn. lizzie

Wow, that's an awesome set-up!! I have weight envy!

I wish more TC's were like yours - small, light, able to fit on a daily driver yet still have the 'luxuries' of a TC. Sadly, TC's seem to be going the opposite direction: "bigger is better."

Happy travels.
