Planning a trip to Florida

We are thinking of going to Florida this summer. We usually stay in a condo or rent a house. But now we are thinking of pulling the TT and stop about halfway and continue on the next day (going there and coming home). We will be leaving from the Houston area. My question is do any of you know of some nice places between Houston and Destin Florida to stop over for the night? Also any nice RV parks on or near the beach in Destin. Not for the partying crowd just laid back family freindly parks?

We like to stay at the Hollywood Casino in Bay St. Louis, MS. Easy in and out. And the grownups can take a shuttle van to the casino for a little fun. Just off I-10 a few miles.

Thanks for all your input. I see I have some research to do and hopefully get ready for a road trip. This will be the farthest we will have pulled the TT (Premier 31 bhpr). We can make it to Destin in about 12hrs with just the car. I just don't want to pull the TT for that many hours. I think it would be best to stop and stay over about halfway to Destin and take it all the way in the next day (start fresh).

Houston to Destin should be less than a day's driving, particularly summer.

On a trip in late February, with shorter daylight hours, leaving San Antonio 9 AM put me in Slidell at sundown. From Houston, the Pensacola - Panama City area, your destination, would be my likely overnight stop.

There are a number of decent RV parks close to I-10 in the Gulfport-Biloxi area. That would be beyond the halfway point, about 6 hours out of Houston. Halfway point is somewhere between Baton Rouge and Slidell if destination is Panama City.

I can't select a Biloxi area RV park for you, I prefer the more primitive CG at the National Seashore.

If you are looking for the really laid back Florida push on for another 80 -100 miles to Port St. Joe and stay at TH Stone Memorial State Park. There are 2 campgrounds in the park, Gulf Breeze is just over the dunes from the open Gulf and 300 yds from Port St. Joe Bay. Shady Pines in inland on the peninsula but still within 300 yds of both Gulf and Bay. very quiet and restful and a great place for kayaking and fishing or just walking the beaches. It also gets you away from the touristy and into the old "forgotten" coast.

I've been here and it is really nice!

It's pretty clear to me that the OP is looking for a nice place to stay that falls in the middle of his origin - Houston, and his destination - Destin.

My question is do any of you know of some nice places between Houston and Destin Florida to stop over for the night?

OP - check out the state parks near Destin - Henderson Beach and Topsail. Never been to either one, but planning to go this summer.

Are you wanting to stop over in Destin or is that your destination? Sorry I am confused on your intent.
