Getting ready for a move from California to West (by God) Virginia 🙂

We're taking a couple of detours, to visit the Grand Canyon, cross the Rockies, and then to dip back down into the Smokey Mountains...we plan to take 2 weeks to do the trip, but have flexibility to stretch it into 3 if we need/want. I love road trips!

Quick photo op after visiting the scales. (Edit: the trailer attitude is an optical illusion due to the uneven ground; it's actually slightly nose-down)

The route

We're taking off in about 2 weeks, and I will update as we make progress...right now we're deep in the process of preparing for the movers, and getting the trailer populated with everything we'll need on the road.

Do you have a GPS? Handy for many reasons one of which is to let you know when you will arrive at a destination.

Good tip...and iPhone app suggestions?

Try "RV Parky," unless you already have all your reservations made. It does a search for nearby RV parks and gives reviews, then links to the map program to give you directions.

Thanks, I'll check it out!

and...having done similar, I suggest you get a weather radio with severe weather warning feature. Ours saved us.

Rangerbait, have a great trip. Do not worry about trying to cram everything in the trailer you "think" you might need, there are plenty of WalMarts on the route.

Our favorite trip out west was on the highway from the Grand Canyon up through Monument Valley to the Four Corners area. Take your time through there and let the kids out to explore, they will never forget it.
