Propping exit windows open

We just got our travel trailer and i am looking for ways to prop open our exit windows (with screens). I was thinking of getting extra clips like ones that hold the bins open, would that work or are the windows too heavy? any other ways to prop open? Thanks

I may try an extension. I am going to try to get a hinge/latch like om the side of an A frame ladder. Then it can open it and lock it open. Just a thought. If that doesnt work I am goiong with the prop idea.

To the OP: could you fabricate an "extension" for the existing prop rod ? Something that would simply make the factory prop maybe twice as long.

This thread gave me an idea. I couldn't use baggage door latches because my window hinges don't swing up past 90 degrees. I made some prop stick extension from PVC pipe. The pipe simply slips over the window's existing prop stick. On the other end of the pipe I added a 45 degree elbow that I cut down into the shape of a tab. The tab slips into the existing window frame notch. Not sure I'd leave this set up in gusty winds, but...

I like this idea. May try it. I was also thinking of getting latches like the ones that would hold the legs of a tv tray or similar table open. Thanks for the pvc idea.

Thanks. Lots of innovative ideas listed there, and nicely written up and illustrated.

I use the notch in the red handle also. Unfortunately there is no half open position. It is all or nothing.

I did something similar to that except I put a portable 5k air conditioner in the escape window with a PVC pipe in the window arm to the ground to hold the window up.

I use a rubber band on the window arm to keep it half mask or partially open instead of all the way open.

Not picking on you Jerry, but if the posted photo is your window the notch we are referring to is there on the bottom of the red handle. Here's your picture with an arrow pointing to the notch.

You just open the window and let the notch in the bottom of the handle lock onto the window frame. I do like your pin idea to keep it closed. There's no chance it's going to accidentally pop open that way. ๐Ÿ™‚

I'm not sure what kind you have either. Mine have 2 latches , one on each side, that you pull to release. All I have been able to come up with so far is a couple of small pieces of wood cut to length to prop the window open.

You heard right about them coming loose, I looked in my mirror one day to see it flapping up and down. Luckily no damage was done, I pulled off and put it back in place.

Crazy idea, but can you open the window and just slide it sideways out of the hinge? Then just store it somewhere safe until it's time to go home.

In all seriousness though try a baggage door clip. Link
It will hold the window open until you release it.

I was hoping that would work but the window doesnt open 180 degrees up against the unit, it is about a 100 degree opening that is why i was thikning lift struts

Would you actually be able to mount lift struts and still close the window? Not sure about yours, but I am pretty sure there's not enough room in there for struts when closed on mine.

Maybe you could make up a aluminum prop rod that can be attached to the window and frame with bolts and wing-nuts, and removed when you want to close the window?
