Quick question on tow ratings

When I weight my truck and trailer at the scale and if the ticket says front axle x amount of pounds and the rear axle says x amount of pounds if I combine these two weights that amount should not exceed the GVWR

Why not on larger commercial trucks? Because those trucks are not capable of the levels of acceleration and braking a pickup truck is.


Hit a pothole, speed bump, a dip in the road will overload ANY rigs axles etc

Only saving grace on class 8s, they typically have a 25k rating, legal to 17-20k lbs per bridge laws.

One can buy overloads per axle etc, even my argument can go out the door!

That shows exactly what I was saying. There are two rear axle ratings and the gas option has a base weight a 1000lb lighter and that's not even the regular cab model.

Here is the actual OFFICIAL SAE ratings. My truck is an AISIN 3500 DRW Crew Cab 4x4, all the numbers are there for MY specific truck. Read the last line that is specific to MY truck.

Any more thoughts gang???

LDT mfg gvwr is just a marketing thing. As evident of all the different gvwr numbers for the same exact LDT.
GM 1500...5 gvwrs
GM 2500...16 gvwrs
GM3500 srw...5 gvwrs

F150...21 gvwrs
F250...5 gvwrs.
F350 srw...19 gvwrs

Fords F350 can be had with a 10000 gvwr or a 11500 gvwr. Difference is just a gvwr tag.

Ram also has different gvwrs for the same truck.

Just a example why a LDT gvwr or the LDT gvwr based payload sticker isn't used for legal weights.

I never get a good answer on this one.

How can I load my rear axle to it's RAWR of 9,750# and not add a single pound to it's front axle weight of 5,250# and be within the 14k GVWR???

I got booted off IRV.NET over disagreeing with SmokyWren a monitor on this subject.

If I understand correctly you can't load to the full rear axle rating without exceeding your GVWR.
Much in the same way you can't tow a 15k bumper pull RV without exceeding the hitch rating.
Sure you may be within one rating but exceed others. I'm not sure what's so complicated about that!


Not true. Last time I loaded my rear axle 200lbs more than it's 3800lb rating. That lifted more weight off the front axle so the trucks rating was never exceeded.
