Sorry GM, I switched to RAM

For several reasons, which I won't bore you with, I decided I wanted a new truck. I talked my wife into it and we started looking and talking about it. Regardless of the brand, we decided we were going to jump up to a 2500 (from a 2013 Silverado 1500, 5.3, 3.42).

We knew we wanted a gas engine and after doing a lot of research and reading, we went to look at a RAM 2500 with the 6.4L HEMI. Although we have been happy with the Chevy overall, the 6.0L engine GM is still using just doesn't seem to measure up. For the record, GM's recall and ignition switch issues played no part in our decision not to buy another GM and I would still consider them in the future.

We looked at a Tradesman, but decided we wanted a few more bells and whistles. Another dealership had an SLT that had everything we needed and wanted. There was a lot of wheeling and dealing involved, but eventually we drove off with the new truck below.

We have only driven it about 100 miles and won't tow with it until next weekend, but so far I am impressed. Can't wait to hitch up the 7,500 pound trailer and see the difference!

Here are a couple of cell phone pics my wife took in a parking lot today:

The issue is not that they've "owned up to it", but rather the very long (10 years to travel) roundabout road they were dragged down before they came clean. Anyone who thinks GM is an honorable corporate citizen in this society is only fooling themselves.

Glad you have no worries larry, glad to see all those that could retire at a younger age...Me, I got out of the USAF in 75', went to work with a major manufacturer, after 12 years, plant shut down...had to leave the state to get a job....next job, 5.5 yrs, got laid off, had to leave the state to find another job...now 21 years with this company and do have 3 pensions, but changes in life X 3 caused a few set backs at times.....Though, at times in Viet Nam, never thought I'd live as long as I have at this time:)...so life IS good and I've been blessed.

Glad all those that could retire early have...enjoy it, because i believe that most know by a certain age, that life IS short, enjoy family while you can:)

Don't know about the "no worries" part though...with daughter and two grand daughters, guess i still have some at this point...

Well, I've "opted" to retire at 66 (July of 2016).....can draw my max SS, wife is 2 yrs younger than I so she will do a little better also...I have 3 pensions, and we both have 401K's...I'm a Viet Nam vet, so I can go to a VA, (or die in a waiting room, not funny, but guess I'll see), will buy insurance for the wife.....Main reason I've waited is more personal, dealing with a daughter and two grand daughters that an ex-son-in-law has dropped the ball on..so, though, my wife and I were "empty nesters", ready to pull the trigger, now we're back to a daughter, and two grand daughters living with us for the last year and a half...until......SO, though some think they may know my financials and think they know what I can and can't do...I've opted to help raise two grand daughters (ages 10 and 6), and support my daughter for a bit..The job I have is a BIG PLUS at this time.....wasn't anyone's business, but I'm also debt free . just trying to support grand daughters and daughter, (get's expensive).....especially with school starting up again...(even had to buy the daughter a car to get around in)....yep, just trying to be a good dad and take care of family....if something changes, maybe I'll retire earlier...

again to the one that seems to want to drag out how many new trucks that I've owned.. that thinks they know more about me and my financials than "I" do:R, sorry, but you're sadly mistaken in your assumption's...but if it makes you feel warm and fuzzy berating me for reasons you have no clue about, cause I sure don't understand your obsession
....glad I could make your day:)

Buying new or used doesn't have much to do with when you can retire. We buy new and I retired at age 47. However we do keep our vehicles for at least 10 years. Our 2003 5.9 Dodge is a like an under powered horseless carriage when compared with the new ones.

Hey I retired 2 years ago at 56 and always buy new. In fact about 3 weeks ago I just replaced my 10 year old 3/4 ton with the 2014 1 ton dually in my SIG line. Other then what I got for my old truck we payed cash for it.
Don't like other people's headaches nor did we want a new payment! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Leaves the rest of us some good used cars to look at without paying the new car price. I wouldn't own a brand new truck or coach as far as that goes. I will let some one like you pay the big money for all the newness and spend the money I saved on things the wife and I both enjoy.

Wow, more assumptions...you "assume", I take a hit....and don't even know me...I purchase at employee cost, plud any incentives...trucks are paid for when purchased....

Guess it boils down to "taste"...Last Chevy I tried out was a 2013 before I purchased the 2013...now I am comparing LTZ to Longhorn trim and 3500 Dually's to 3500 dually's...so that's the big difference. Last 2500 I owned was in 03' To me, the Ram looks better, inside and out than the new Chevys', look better inside, not as much "plastic", and with the all new frame, front and rear suspension, medium duty diesel engine coupled to a medium duty tranny...heck, I can't lose..

oh, and I'm more than glad to take very, very good care of all the trucks I've ever purchased and then buy new every 2 or 3 years...low mileage and in excellent condition when I get rid of them. After 4 yrs. in the military, purchasing and reparing old vehicles while over seas, I said, if I could afford it, I wouldn't buy used again...on a few occasions I have, but rare.....Seeing as how you know so much about me and know what kind of "Hit" I take, can you tell me if I can go ahead and retire in 2 years?? I mean, you have a crystal ball or seem to think you know my financials and you don't know me from Adam, or anything else about me for that matter.

Funny thing is, I like Chevy just as much, if not more than you do..bet I've owned more..but won't "assume" that...and WOULD go back to them if I needed to...you just came on this thread and trashed Ram period, it appears that was your only intent....heck, you even compared a Ram gasser to a Chevy D/A...We're talking about diesels here...but I understand your agenda:)

HEY, my son was born in Wichita Falls TX back in July of 71', courtesy of Uncle Sam, USAF, Shepherd AFB...had Tech School there....appears the only thing we have in common....cool:)...

No sorry man you will never be able to retire spending your money on vehicles every 2 or 3 years.I just don't see it in my crystal ball. Now me I am retiring next year at 54 and going fulltime with my used truck and 5th wheel. I didn't trash Ram YOU ASSUMED I did I just relayed my experience with the truck I had. And the OP never mentioned diesel he has a gasser. Spending all that money on new trucks has fogged your brain. And you can say all you want about not taking a hit when buying new everybody knows the truth anytime you buy new you take a hit. I don't care if you get it at employee cost you still pay for being the first owner.

jim, I paid 52K out the door for a 2014 3500 SRW Mega Cab, Laramie , pretty well loaded, fifth wheel prep etc. Was it a good deal, good as I could get, the MSRP was just shy of 62K . My question is if I drive it 2-3 years, and I do take very good care of my vehicles, do you think I will get even close to 52K, my answer is no ,did I take a hit ,yup. Yes I have to take in consideration the use I got for those 2-3 years, but vehicles are pretty much as losing proposition , call a hit, call it what you want ,but they are not an investment.

All the manufactures have taken advantage of the public, but I will say that GM has a history of repeatedly knowingly not addressing safety problems and willing to take the financial hit of lawsuits versus the cost of fixing the problem upfront. What happened with this key issue, with the GM engineers knowing for certain keys were falling out of the switch is just unforgivable to me. Yes, Ford got caught with their pants down on the Pinto. But to show GM how i feel, i will vote with my wallet. I realize tomorrow something could come up regarding dodge and or ford about knowingly sending people to their deaths. But right now GM (again) is in the hot seat and I think more people should let these idiots know that some of us actually care that people died because they knew good and well they had a problem and they were willing to accept the liabilities of injuries over the cost of fixing

it seems like several vehicle's are having switch problems now and it still sucks but ya might have one soon your self . what will you say then?

what about the fords that started to burn because of the cruise control problem. It is not just a one brand problem, silly to even think it is. We all want the best we can get for safety so I like recalls.
