Thinking about putting stuff in one of the heavy duty totes, Roughneck, Action Packer, etc. to just store in the aisle of the camper, and then pull out at the camp site. I realize they are not the most secure, but I figure I can run a long cable lock to discourage the casual walkaway.

Thoughts or suggestions?

We use the mid-sized low profile rubber-mate action packer and carry it in our front rack. It is low enough that it does not affect cooling the engine or transmission. We store our gray water bottle, electrical cords, gray water hose, oil and small gas can for generator. In short it holds anything that is used in the rain and can be packed up wet. Thanks for caution on the bug problem. We taped a 4 inch plastic skirt to the front half of the lid using duct tape and believe it - it keeps the lid from letting in rain during driving. Cheers

Found a bunch of stuff on sale at the local Fred Meyer. Mix of Rubbermaid and Sterilite. I am thinking that I will completely unload the camper and start over. Shooting for a better plan. Afraid I am going to find way too much.....but maybe not.

I will snap some pics during the process. Might start Friday if I don't have to work. Otherwise will be Monday morning.

The amount of stuff we bring is related to the number of people. What are you putting in these tubs? We camp south and wouldn't store food outside. I can see kid's tiys as a gathering device for helmets and outside toys. I'm only curious what younstore in the tubs to leave them outsied. We use the tubs in our underneathe storage and we just get what we need then put it back.

Mostly going to be stuff related to the different activities. Helmets, toys, yard games, and also the vehicle and trailer set up and maintenance items; extra oil, hoses, wash stuff, rope, tie downs, stakes.

I'll just add to make sure you look UNDER the handles where it clips on to the bottom on whatever plastic tubs you decide to buy!

I did not.:(

I had 2 storage tubs that where in the aisle when traveling and placed outside when parked for more than the night.

All went well traveling up North THEN I came South. And found bugs inside the tubs. That then got into my RV.

What I found is On some plastic tubs there are holes drilled into the tub under the handle on the bottom part of the tub. :S

The southern bugs just walked right inside my tubs thru the holes in under the handles.

Good to know, will check.

If you don't have a Costco account, they also sell them at Home Depot. The ones at Lowes are of inferior quality than the ones at HD, I've had both, and I currently have three under the RV for kids toys and never had any issues.

found this on a quick look thru:
Centrex Plastics 27 Gallon Construction Grade Tote at Costco for about 11.00.
Specs:
•27 gallon capacity
•Dimensions: 30.5"L x 20.125"W x 14.25"H
•Reinforced lid
•Padlock holes for locking
•Stackable
•Raised bottom
•Made in USA
•Black with yellow lid

It does not appear to be waterproof. No seals or such, but that isn't what I was looking for.

I agree on downsizing, when I solo camp, everything I need goes on or into my Ultra Classic HD. Problem for me now is I am still downsizing from a 32' Jayco quad bunk with an 11' slide, and those cool maxi doors in the back. We could camp 11 people for a couple of weeks with that outfit. But I am really liking the floorplan on the S & S, just have to really plan well for a week out. Just me and one grandkid for the first few days, but by the 4th, it will be 8 or 9 folks.

The Costco idea is excellent, will look at that. If the containers I choose don't have a latch I will bungee for sure. No bears where we are going, but raccoons for sure. Never seen them, but don't doubt the plan.

The campground I will be at is far enough away that the clientele is pretty decent....I will be at the low end of the scale with my old S & S.

Good info all, thanks

also beware of the raccoons! they have the lids, and the latches for most stuff already figured out!
Then.....there is the BEARS! Those lil critters will tear apart a soft container like cheese. And... like grass thru a goose make your life a mess.

Check out Costco and there 22 gallon black and yellow "construction" containers.... only 8 bucks and change. I have a few of the action packers and those a great but these are a GREAT deal.

That said, I would seriously think about adopting a backpacker mindset and reduce the amount of "stuff".

Those Costco containers do have slots along the sides for locks/cables.

We use two Rubbermaid action packers. I leave at least one of them out at the campground and have never had a problem with them walking off. You might put a bungee cord on the lids. I did have trouble with the lids fitting tight after a few years.

We use Lotz of totes. Measure your storage space then at the store set up and measure various sizes till you find a mix that will fit. Easy cheap and neat storage. If they walk away the most your out is maybe ten dollars
