Take along Ladder?

Anyone find the need for a take along with you ladder?

I will be putting solar panels on the roof of my Hybrid and want to be able to have access to them anytime.

I am thinking about getting one of those telescoping ladders. Has anyone had experience with them?

Yeah, we take a small step stool/ladder, maybe 3'. Make sure the feet are large enough, or you have something to place on the ground, to keep the legs from sinking on muddy sites.

I bought a 7 foot folding, double sided step ladder from Camping World. It folds shut to about 4 inches square and opens up to a 7 foot double sided step ladder. It is very sturdy when opened. Easy to set up and locks open when set up. I store it in the front storage compartment which goes across the camper. It takes up very little space.

I just use my tailgate or truck bumper. Not ideal but I don't want to carry more stuff.

Can't visualize a safe way to carry an extension ladder on a HTT....no permanent ladder to attach it to. Bumper won't work. Doubt that attaching to the latches would work. If you haven't checked online such as Ebay or Amazon for that nifty ladder, suggest you check there for a price. Good luck.

Thanks folks. I have short step stools that will get me to most things BUT I also want to be able to get to the ROOF of my camper.

PLUS - there is the issue on finding a way to carry it. That is why I was considering that pricey COMPACT ladder.

OR ELSE I have to find some clever way to take my extension ladder with me.

I take a 5' "a" ladder on our camping trips which allows access to every thing on our rig. A lot cheaper than what you are considering unless space is a concern. If it is go for it. I have heard good things about that style of ladder.

That looks cool, but yikes! It's expensive. We just a 4 ft step ladder, which is adequate, but I can't see the top of my slide.

I carry a 6 foot a-frame ladder that folds up and it travels in my rear bumper. Would that give you enough height to see what you are after?

i just use a $25 4' lightweight ladder i got at WallyWorld.
i've been using it for around 8 years, when camping in our Roo.

but i use my 6' ladder for getting on top of it. but i don't take it camping.

We have one of those and they're awesome, but overkill for your purpose. We just got a good 4' ladder at Lowe's and it does everything you'll need to put the Gizmos on. Also came in really handy when we had a monsoon and we'd left the awning out....had to remove all the remains and put into the back of the truck to get home. Another lesson learned.

Reread your post and you said solar PANELS...I was thinking the bunkend Gizmos. Yep, for the panels you're going to need something taller. They are dandy, but agree on being pricey.

Seen them in use a number of times. Spendy little gadget, though.
