Towing speed?

I'm wondering what speed most folks shoot for when towing a travel trailer? Highway towing on the flats that is.

65ish mph. Sometimes if I am feeling crazy, I'll go to 68mph. My truck and trailer seem to like 68mph.

I do see a drop in mpg when hitting 70mph.

Right lane travel mostly, middle lane if available.

On local roads that I don't know, I follow the speed limit (or a little slower) even if locals are going faster. That way I don't get caught going into a turn or intersection area too fast.

Best MPG is 62-64 MPH for our truck. I'm never in a hurry and I'm not retired. Relax enjoy the trip.

My truck has a sweet spot at about 62 mph. I prefer to keep it below 65 regardless of the posted speed limit.

Being a proud Texan, we urge everyone to burn as much fuel as possible. If you can't drive faster then use a lower gear, turn on the AC with the winders open, or drag an anchor.

We set the cruise control on 70 unless the speed limit is lower.

The diesel truck handles the weight with no problems. Your mileage may vary.

In Calif. if you are driving over 63 mph. you better be sure your Radar detector is on and working. You will visually be very easy to pick out in traffic as you will be passing most of the big 18 wheelers. Valentine Radar is the very best:)

65 is the top speed I'll drive with my current tires. At that speed, I don't even feel the trailer behind me and it's comfy.

62-63 is the sweet spot for our truck on the interstates. Since we carry 300 gallons of fuel we don't stop every day for fuel so we see the same four wheelers (and some RVs) blasting past us three or four times a day!

thank you..

Look into Carlisle RH and HD series tires.

As well as Goodyear Marathons...when run +10 PSI per their documentations.

Westlake ST tires as well...over 65mph rated.

And then the LT bandnwagon that I am 50/50 on...they are all over 65mph rated

I'm fine keeping it 65 or less when towing.

Still a little amazed at how many regular cars I almost completely run over when doing 65 MPH on the highway with my 30ft TT. If going 65 MPH terrifies you while driving, forcing you to do 50ish...please just take secondary roads.

depends on state regulations. max 65 with st tires.
some states have slow speeds for trucks and vehicles with trailers.
(motorhomes are classified as a truck). even tho they may get away with speeding.
some states have slower speeds at night or when you are required to use headlights.

I try to keep it at 63. I too park it over in the right lane when there are just two lanes. In urban areas where there are 3 or more lanes and lots of on and off ramps, I will stay in the 2nd most right lane.

Ratings shamtings...that's not what holds people to maintain a given speed.

Trailer tires are now being made with speed ratings that's no one will actual travel, so lets end that debate. Please...end it!

Comfort. That's what people drive. They drive a comfortable speed.

My previous TT I could do 85 even 90 and no feel any concern. My new 28 foot TT with the same short wheel base TV, and now 65-70mph (TOPS) is now comfortable.
