Truck Camper Disposal?

Hey all-

It's finally time to let go of my '92 Lance. It's in pretty ratty shape, and while that's fine for me it's not so fine for me and my SO at the same time. So I'm going to be moving on to a TC with a slide, and I need to take the old one somewhere to dispose of it.

I have a stable lift on it, and want to move that to my new camper, whatever that is. Since the Lance doesn't have jacks anymore, since the stable lift, I'm not sure how I'd get it off the truck...

So I think in essence I'm just not quite sure how to go about getting rid of it.

Any thoughts?

All the best-

Ditto.

And same regarding a forklift. Trying to lift it out of truck with a fork lift is going to damage the truck bed as well.

True, but it would be funner to "hey hold my beer and watch this!"

Does anyone know where there's a landfill in WA state that will take a camper? I once went to great effort to crush one into pieces and take it to the local transfer station and had a very hard time getting them to accept it.
The other potential issue is I have no title for it.
The one I want to dump is one I bought in 1999, the owner was somewhat of an aquaintance so I disobeyed Rule Number One and took it with his word that he'd get the title to me. Well it's 17 years later and I'm still waiting!
If I can't properly dispose of it, I could always just abandon it and let the consequences fall on him, the last known registered owner. I'm trying to be nice, but...

Go to a small town dump where its not a zoo. Nice quiet country dump. Set it down on stack of pallets. Take time to remove stable lift system. Dumps heavy equipment rolls it into dump pile.

Wow, a ton of great suggestions!

I am going to pull some of my parts off it, like my battery monitor and maybe my deep cycle AGMs (They're very old though), then I'll advertise it for $50 on CL, saying that they have to come, I'll put it on their truck with the stable lift, then unbolt the stable lift. If that doesn't work I'll find a landfill with a forklift. 🙂

Thanks very much!

I've found the same thing.

Another thought, donate it to a local non-profit, tell them they will need a flatbed to pick it up and you get a tax deduction.

I would suggest listing it for $50 and see what happens. Free can cause lots of problems.

Some of the car recyclers will take an RV, I know that Colorado Auto Parts has a few. Also, Five R specializes in RV recycling.

Otherwise, see what Waste Management policy is on taking it at one of their transfer sites. Also, Douglas county has a disposal site just north east of Sedalia. It its a go, put it on a flat bed and haul it to the dump.

I would strip it and sell the appliances on CL then advertise the shell for free. I was trying to find a used ladder for mine but gave up as I could not find a used one. My buddy is looking for a working 3way fridge to fit in his old lance, plenty of buyers out there.

Depends what you mean by ratty. Rat infested, roof leaks and totally rotted out, or still serviceable?

RE getting it out without the stablelift. Set it in there on something slippery, like a big piece of visqueen folded in half so it "rolls" out. Drive carefully to the dump, no tailgate and I bet you can wiggle it out, or tie a choker around it and have them pull back until it's half on the ground. May have to crib up the overhead though so it doesn't hit the truck bed......or load it in backwards for its funeral procession.
Disclaimer, I'd try a stunt like this. I'm not guaranteeing your outcome, lol..

Put it on Criagslist and say it is free - but the stablelift does not come with it. If you list it as free it will be gone in a day or 2

Use the stablelift to get it off your truck and onto the new owner's truck.

Remove stablelift and tell the new owner to have a nice day!

Exactly!!!!

Why dispose of it if someone else might use it? As others have said, place an ad on Craigslist and offer it for free. With so many people having a hard time financially these days, it might help someone out who really needs or wants a camper. Karma and all that!
