Update - NJ to Utah truck camper transport

Well, I know you all think I’m crazy, but I did it! My 13 year old son had a few days off school, so we picked up and drove to NJ, 2155 miles, in 3 days. We had such a great time together, something we will remember forever. We spent a day in NYC - he had never been - and then I put him on a plane all by himself to get home for school, another first for him, and really hard for me, his crazy mom.

The camper was in impeccable condition, hardly used at all, seemed brand new. The family selling it was just wonderful, their hospitality knew no bounds, and I felt so blessed to meet them. I spent 3 days getting home and just spent my first night home in the camper with my younger son! My wonderful, sweet husband puts up with a lot . . .

So many wonderful things came out of this trip - lots of uninterrupted time with my teenage son, a day to remember in NYC, making lifelong new friends with the family who sold us the camper, and ultimately, my dream camper, a 2014 Northstar Adventurer, now in the driveway! Losing my Palomino pop up this summer (see prior post, pop up roof blew off) put me into a funk, but now I’m back in my camping groove and planning more trips. Maybe it’s time for Alaska next summer???

I’ll post a pic at some point - thanks for all the good advice!

Good for you. Kids that are involved and do things are able to do stuff for themselves when they get older. It might be tinkering with a solar set up or repairing camper items or any number of things as a kid that gives them some direction as they get older.

A friend used to say his son loved to go boating and water skiing but it was a lot of work. I told him to make the kids go back and forth to fetch tools and get stuff.

If you tell them to go get a Phillips head screwdriver and they come back with a straight explain it and tell them to go back again and they won't be useless when they grow up. I told him if it's too much for him and the kids don't want to get with the program, sell the boat. That's another part of learning. Contribution/reward.
