Its a 2005 Keystone Outback Sydney 31 RQS, Very clean. downside it will be site unseen (only pics), but since the seller is going through ebay buyers protection it should be easy? I am taking a small risk but if the seller is upfront It should be easy and pay off.

what should I know about this model? mainly downsides
from what I found on google (also floor layout, weight specs)

the gvwr is close to 10k my truck is rated for about 11k on towing (its a 16 chevy 1500 5.3 it also has built in trailer brake) so it could be a pain if fully loaded?
ball size? I got a 2" hopefully it fits? (its not a big deal for me those are cheap)
does this model has trailer brakes? I am hoping so
biggest thing is insurance and registration cost (i am new so give me a rough figure)

upkeep what should do I need to know? I haven't owned a travel trailer it will see use monthly usage at best. but lets say we don't use it as much what do i need to know?

thank you guys hopefully yall can understand my post?

If you want to buy used, look at local units posted on Craigslist. By all means, get help on what your truck is rated to tow. As stated, payload will be exceeded before the mythical tow capacity number.

Good Luck

I treat large ebay purchases like cars, or RV's similar to a Craigslist purchase, buy local enough so you can drive out and look at it.
Many sellers seem to develop ignorance or blindness to the defects in the product they are selling.

I've sold a few campers on ebay becausei didn't want to deal with a bunch of time wasters or tire kickers.

I didn't hide anything and instead was able to give the buyer peace of mind by showing photos of all the things that were wrong with the camper.

Good experiences each time. There are bad apples in every bunch, but not all sellers on ebay are out to take advantage of others.

.

For me, I wouldn't buy an unseen RV/TT.

Especially a TT, a vehicle and other expensive cost items.

Worth the risk? Not for me....

Education is priceless. In this instance, it might just save you a bundle. Learn more before you purchase anything, anywhere from anyone.
I would have never bought our first travel trailer if I had had access to a forum such as this.
Good luck.

As I see it there are two main issues here ...

The OP, by what he's posted so far, clearly has little understanding of how travel trailers are built, how they must be maintained, how they fail, and therefore what to look for when purchasing a used one. That's fair, we've all been there at one time, and to his credit at least he is asking questions. 🙂 However, he's also intending to buy one sight unseen, assuming that because it's being sold via eBay "buyer's protection" this should be a "safe" purchase. :R As one who's been involved in this sport for a couple of decades I sure wouldn't do this but hey, it's his $$$$$, he's entitled to waste it any way he wants. :W

The OP, based on what he's posted so far, also clearly has little understanding of what it takes to safely tow a trailer of this size. That he's not entitled to do - to risk the safety of others just because he has no idea what he's doing. :M

As the old saying goes - "There ought to be a law" ... but unfortunately there isn't so we must rely on the OP's common sense to pay attention to the good advice being offered in this thread and defer from this purchase until he's had the time to educate himself about the many various aspects involved in owning and safely towing a travel trailer. Let's hope his "Texas Pride" doesn't prevent this. :W

IMO you are getting SOLID and very consistent advice here and only a fool would ignore it and rush in, but sadder things have happened.

GOOD LUCK

Ditto from all of the above. Please don't do it, you'll most likely be very sorry. You've got to have someone that knows what to look for inspect it first, eBay will not protect you from water damage.

Its all been said above. I would look for a newer, lighter rig thats local so you can get your eyes and those of a professional on it. RV's can hide so many sins that may cost hundreds or thousands to fix. Worst case scenario is a wreck if you don't match the truck to rv with the right hitch and wd system. Every experienced RV'er on here is cringing at your plan...PLEASE heed their advice.
