What do you move your trailer with?

As I watched the farm owner move our trailer into the shed with his John Deere 720 tractor, it got me thinking - for those of you that have your own land and/or storage space, what do you move your trailer around with when not using your tow vehicle? Would a person need a tractor or would a lawn/garden tractor handle short distances?

Depends on the size of the trailer and the terrain its to be moved on. It rough getting back up into my trailer sheds.

A tractor model number or simply a tractor tells us nothing as they come from lightweight 600 lbs lawn tractors or a 1200 lbs garden tractor or a 18hp to 50 hp compact utility tractor that may weigh 2200 lbs to 6800 lbs.
Some tractors have a FEL and are big enough to move a 40' trailer and some are not.

Same with a trailer which can be a single axle light weight popup or a tri axle 15000 lb 40' model.

My 50 hp Farmtrac FT60 tractor weighs approx 6500-6800 lbs with the loader so it can move just about any size RV trailer with the 3 point or loader.

I use it to back my GN and bumper pull flatbed trailers into the shed. I use my truck to back the 11200 lb 5th wheel trailer in its shed.

I moved a 3400 lb bass boat with a 18 hp garden tractor on level surface. One time it was parked off my drive way surface. Let the hitch down on the ball and when I let the clutch out the front wheels went 3' off the ground. The only thing saving me from being crushed was a plate sticking out behind the rear wheels for that purpose. After that I left the trailers jack wheel lower as a safety catch.

I use a Sears garden tractor to drag several trailers all over the yard. Used it yesterday to drag a loaded utility trailer that had to have been close to a ton on the tongue. I did have a lift bucket (Johnny bucket) of dirt on the front. The power hitch lift would not lift it.

I park our Casita with it all the time. It doesn't mind the Casita at all, power lift lifts the Casita fine. Hitch was simple fabrication to the factory "bail" hitch.

My dealer used a forklift. But I doubt too many people have one of those. I use my truck to move the TT around, backing in and out of the spot on the side of the house.

John Deere L118 moves the pup but the transmission could never handle the TH. Only the E150 moves the TH.

They WILL move with your lawn tractor but as mention above the front end of the lawn tractor will go straight up in the air if you move to fast on the take off. Don't ask me how I know, only that I had to go in and change my clothes! :B

A 10,000 pound capacity Clark forklift with side shift .
It had a 1 " hole through one of the lumber forks .
Each time I would have to bolt the trailer ball through the fork .

I built a bar using a piece of 3" channel iron and mounted the three sizes of balls for the three point hitch on the John Deere 4200. It works pretty well. I can see to back under the trailer hitch, raise the three point, move the trailer then drop it down. No cranking the jack.

There are a few ways to move your Trailer...This guy designed and built his own RV from scratch...to be towed to his camping destination by an "Equius Motive"..which is an all natural, powered by Alfalfa 4 H.P. 16 Hoof Drive (and wait for it!) a Whinny-Bago.

Most lawn tractor transmissions could not handle that much weight. Use your truck like 90% of folk do if you don't have a tractor or fork lift.

John Deere 2130 or a Mcormick 150. Lawn tractor would never make it through the gravel.
