When discussing tow vehicles...

I think we should ban the use of marketing terms... I.e.: 1/2 ton, heavy 1/2, 3/4 ton, 1 ton.... Including the numbers attached to them... I.e. 150/1500, 250/2500 etc...

Additionally, omit any and all brand recognition....

Only reference our tow vehicles in terms of GVWR and GAWR (front and rear)...

What say you? New forum rule? It would make this forum a lot more friendlier.

Should we start a campaign?

No lets not start a campaign. Members know what these terms...half, 3/4, one ton.... mean.

As far as brand names...continue to use.

Why water down everything ?

Sounds to me, too much like a peace proposal from the United Nations and we know how well these work. 😉

I think we should just refer to trucks by color. The other specs are so hard to remember anyway.

Mine is blue. That means I can tow anything I want!! Only stronger truck is a green one. Because green means 'go'.

Their are alwich som people who can't stick to subject or will be argumentative. Let those that think it is a good idea start using the proper Terms 150-250-350 with prober weight ratings if known and we will se who wants to be helpful and who don't.

What's the Question? Do I like numbers? Yes! When it comes to Dead Presidents, the higher the better. What about 10 ton or Class 8?

Anyone remember the f150 7700? Shoulda called it the max hyper load or somthing. Probably woulda sold more of em.

I don't think the idea was to sell them as much as to claim bragging rights on who had the Heaviest Heavy Half Ton. I have only seen one (and I look at a lot of pickups). It even had "250" on the tailgate. The current HD option is a good one for those who want a 8,000 pound gvwr pickup.

Actually the F150 7700 gvwr 4050 rawr is the highest max tow package.

The F150 HD package is the 8200 gvwr with 4800 rawr.

Both are highly sought after for those that don't want or need a heavier truck.

Glad I did not read forums before I ordered my current truck in '03. If I ever get another one forum opinions will not influence me. Just the way I do things.

Just the opposite...Wished I HAD read some on a forum on what one could tow with a 1/2 ton versus 3/4 (oops....er, I mean....no, I know what I'm stating)...some years back. I would have saved some money in the LONG RUN had I listened to some of those with the EXPERIENCE and KNOWLEDGE to help "school" me on what I probably could tow and not tow with a certain truck, NOT KNOWING That much about the numbers, (GVWR, GCWR, RAWR, FAWR

GVWR, GCWR, RAWR, FAWR, gear ratio, etc... should, to me, be figured into the equation when purchasing a towing vehicle...most on here who know these ratings and what they mean, would almost immediately know, or find out with a little research, what TV one had if they were told certain specs...it is what it is.

If a newbie comes on board, tells us they have a 1/2 ton , or 3/4's "whatever", then we should just go from there and offer best advice we can.

Some will tell you, no matter what "specs" you give..."sure you can tow it", other's may say, "well, everyone else does it, no problem"...so I really don't think the post will be anymore civil if you leave out "brand names" or "size truck"....one will bicker with another over GVWR versus rear axle rating or that GCWR doesn't mean anything and on...so, I still think, as in this "recommendation post", you would still see some disagreeing with others...and being human, much won't change...

The Main differance between a light duty pickup and a HD pickup is the design of the rear axle.
True HD pickups have a full floating rear axle, load supported by axle housing with two large bearings for each wheel. The axle only spins the wheel.

Light duty pickups use semi floating axles. This axle only has one bearing for each wheel that rides on the axle.

Nice post highlighting one of the biggest, and least discussed, advantages of 3/4 & 1-tons.

Good work Sir.
