Well, we are finally off to Newfoundland on Monday, May 27. I would like to thank those of you who have supplied support and suggestions over the past year as we planned our trip. This is our first trip with the 5th wheel and we are both excited and nervous. I will be monitoring this site so all comments and suggestions are still greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi BigDaddyHfx,

The Grand Codroy Campground is very nice. Sites are spacious and not too close together. The owners Dennis and Alice Keeping are really nice. The rates right now are $30/night cash only for full service, showers, etc. We would definitely stay here again and probably will on our way back. Highly recommend.

Hi Ed

How is the Grand Codroy campground? We're staying there on the way back for 2 nights.

Hope it dries out for you.

This is quite a change for Newfoundland, I bet the local RVer's are not too happy. More than one Park Official told us that when in Newfoundland park anywhere for the night and no one will bother you.

Does that apply for the whole of Route 430 where it runs thru the Government land??

Hi everyone,

We are currently in Amherst,Nova Scotia at the Loch Lomond Campground. We have already seen 2 moose, one yesterday and one today. They were both females as far as I could tell. We have had rain and cold weather but today was windy and warm. It's suppose to be warm tomorrow. We are planning to stop and see Robert Herr - hopefully for a week if he has room.

Bullwinkle used to hang out around the Viking Settlement. He was huge.

We don't plan driving early or late in the day. We have moose in NS but in 53 years I've never seen one in the wild. Not in NB either. In 1990 (my only other time in Newfoundland) I only saw 1 moose. That moose was huge.

Be very careful when you drive, especially later in the day or right early in the day. In my years living there, I certainly was grateful to the moose who came up out of the ditch and ran down the road in front of me, rather than any other direction.

This pic was sent to me. I didn't take it.

& I, I took the road less travelled by.

Hello all, If any one needs any advice or general questions on Newfoundland please contact me. The moose at least in Gros Morne are at the lowest numbers in quite a few years since the cull in the last couple years. In the later part of May or early June keep a eye out for the caribou as they are still down low.

If you're thinking icebergs, it looks like you'll be heading up the Northern Peninsula for starters http://www.icebergfinder.com/

& while there taking in L'Anse aux Meadows, Nortsted, St. Anthony and more.

Enjoy...and watch out for those moose. We seen 155 of the beasts during our visit of 4 weeks in Mid May to Mid June a few years ago.
This is our favorite place to RV bar none in all of the USA and Canada.
Coming from the perch capitol of the world...I am sure you will enjoy the crab legs and lobsters.
