Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and PEI

We are hoping to travel to PEI this summer. Only have 3 weeks to round trip from Mackinaw City, MI, as we have reservations there for the Bridge Walk on Labor Day. We have hit highlights in Halifax area and St. John's New Brunswick during a cruise 2 years ago so want to take our rig to PEI for sure. Any advice on campgrounds and entertainment?

We live in Louisiana but spend summers with family in Traverse City, MI. Occasionaly we pull our fiver and travel. This may not be the best year with the high gas/diesel prices, but I don't see it getting better in the future and we aren't getting any younger!

Fundy National Park in New Brunswick is a beautiful park with great walking trails. Chignecto North Campground in the Park has quiet sites, most separated from the next by trees. The fishing village of Alma is nearby and the park is not very far from Hopewell Rocks.

It's all beautiful ther and most campgrounds were good .We used our passport quite a bit.

Do the Magnetic hill for the fun of it. A MUST is Hopwell rocks in New Bruinswick

We too are going to PEI this summer on the first week of August. We will be staying at Sunset Campground in Cavendish. Seems like a nice campground with good reviews.

Hello folks..I plan to motorhome up to PEI in July with my wife and two granddaughters, 19 and 11. We are excited as we will be first time visitors from near Roanoke, Virginia....I too am looking for a good location to camp on PEI to see as many sights and enjoy as much as possible for 10 days or so.....picked up some good information so far...thanks for the good reads....

Make sure you get the printed visitors guides and the provincial map prepared by each map. They have extras not on any commercial map. This is especially true of the PEI map.

Concerts are going on all summer in all provinces. I don't know what you can pick up from away, but the East Coast Music Association is having its annual special week March 6-10, 2013 in Halifax http://www.ecma.com/ecmw I know some of it will be online. & that could give you an idea of whom to see when your out this way.

One relatively new attraction in New Brunswick is in St Martins on the Bay of Fundy. Its called the Fundy Trail and its a provincial park and they charge an entry fee, but its one of the most scenic drives for 15 kilometers that you can find. Lots of pull off parking spaces with beautiful hiking trails. Not for a foggy day though. Nice campround right in St Andrews if the time allows. This trail is not for an RV, leave them in the campground.
As an interesting note, I think you can hike to the Hearst Family Lodge while on the trail and supposedly that is where they took Patti Hearst to de program her??? Its definitely in the middle of no where.

Stayed in the maritimes all my life . I recommend Shediac area in New BRunswick and Charlottetown PEI .If you like beaches and seafood you are in for a treat .
Try the BEL AIR take out in CAp Pele NB on your way to the PEI bridge . fried clams at its best / seafood platter you won't be able to eat it all but you can doggie bag the rest / share 1 plate for 2 . Have a great time in my backyard .VENEZ NOUS Ouerre .

If you can stretch it a little farther west take in Quebec city. Stay at the KOA on the west side of the city and take in the shuttle. Amazing 17th century city with an incredible history well preserved. Still our favourite in eastern Canada.

We loved, loved, loved PEI, NB and Nova Scotia when we went a couple of years ago. The roads are real easy drive and we have a 40' towing. In PEI we stayed at Vacationland RV Park in Brackley Beach. They had hook-ups which is what we like. Very nice park, but aask for a site down by the water. Beautiful and an Eagle's nest was right by the water to watch.
In Charlottetown there was a wonderful play "Anne of Green Gables". If you get the chance please go see it. It was terrific. Also we took the double decker bus around the town. Great fun. You will love it. You only pay a toll when leaving the island so we took the bridge both ways. I can't remember the toll for a 40' MH with tow but I didn't think it was outrageous. Well worth every penny.

Just realized that I did not specify we are RETURNING to Mackinaw for the bridge walk so our trip to Canada will be in August. Hoping to stretch the trip to 4-5 weeks but our travel companions have an early August obligation! Thanks for the comments thus far!

Just realize that is a LONG drive and will eat up a bit of your 3 weeks. We toured the Maritimes two years ago. Prince Edward Island was great, we loved New Brunswick especially its coast and Miramichi. Our overall favorite was Nova Scotia and the Bay of Fundy. The Cabot Trail that circles Nova Scotia comes highly recommended.

Campgrounds I like are Brudenell & Mill River.

Both are provincial


Search www.google.ca put in "name of province" & "tourism".

The suggestions I'd make for things to do. depend somewhat on whether you plan to visit PEI before or after Labour Day.

& BTW I'm not a beach person.
