Any reason to go across the boarder in Yuma?

Planning our time in Yuma. Trying to decide whether to take our passports. Is there any real reason to go across the boarder in Yuma other than to say been there done that? Don't need dental work or anything like that. Might buy a bottle of tequila. Do you walk across, take a taxi or what. Got to ask... How safe is it?

Take the passports...... what's it going to hurt. If you end up needing them, you'll be glad you have them. If not, they don't take up much space. Seems like a no-brainer.

Might be less hassle at the highway checkpoints if you have "your papers". I know I usually get waved right through but one time I was asked for my passport and I didn't have it and it was a hassle.

It makes for a pleasant unique day trip. Take your passport. You park in a large lot with hundreds of other Americans and walk across a short distance. It is definitely safe. Enjoy a nice lunch and margarita or beer. You won't be alone, for sure. One thing to be aware of - it'll take longer to return than walking over. You'll have to go through customs. You just stand in line and compare purchases with others. If you get acquainted with others from your RV park, there will surely be some that will join you for the day. It's the 'thing to do' while in Yuma.

Los Algodones is very safe and even if you just sight see the food is great. Google it and you will see that
its a great little broader town to visit. We were there about 2 weeks ago.

Over the years we went less and less, found we could get the same deals in Yuma if you looked.we would take visitors over for a look see but ended up at dentist in yuma for competitive pricing and way less hassel, plus our dental plan recognized USA dentist.

I never leave home without my passport. Plans change and who knows some border agent may take you for an alien!

Heck, we take our passports when we go to South Carolina. Throw them in the safe and they go where we go. If you have them why not? They're not too big or too heavy.

We haven't crossed there for years now, so don't know the current issues on safety. But like bobsallyh said I would surely bring your passport.

A few years ago we were in South Padre Island for awhile and really had no plans on crossing. We ended up going over at Progesso several times and bought several things. I can still taste the ice cold Corona for $1.00 a bottle!
