We see a lot of info and bucket lists for the Western US but not so for the eastern half of the country. I thought it would be interesting to start bucket lists for those areas. So lets start with the Southeast. I'll start off:

in no particular order:

1) Smokey Mountains NP--TN/NC
2) Orlando FL theme parks-Disney ect
3) Mammoth Caves NP--KY
4) Everglades NP--FL
5) Blue Ridge Trail--NC/VA
6) Natchez Trace--MS
7) Cape Hatteras--NC/VA
😎 Shenandoah NP--VA
9)
10)

And I run out right there. There are whole states unrepresented. What am I missing?

The only things not on the list that might be included:
Williamsburg and Jamestown, VA
Harpers Ferry and Gettysburg (is that getting too far north?)
The Bourbon Trail in Kentucky
Fort DeSoto outside Tampa

Oh, and I really liked the Okefenokee Swamp.

Well maybe if you have a boat. Or rent one. The actual dry land part was underwhelming when we were there. A store, camp ground, short trail and boat rental place was all I recall.

We've visited a lot of the places already mentioned--here's a few I can add:

1. St Augustine, FL
2. Weeki Wachee Springs State Park, FL (home of the mermaids and manatees)
3. Mt Airy, NC (Mayberry) a delight if you're an Andy Griffith fan
4. the waterfalls in Transylvania County, NC
5. the Cherohala Skyway from Tellico Plains, TN to Robbinsville, NC (be sure to visit Joyce Kilmer Forest along the way)
6. Monroeville, AL if you loved 'To Kill a Mockingbird'. The Courthouse used as the model for the one in the movie will make you feel you have stepped into the movie. In April each year, you can attend a play of TKAM (wonderful-we've done that). Also lots of Harper Lee/Truman Capote memorabilia.
7. Cumberland Mountain State Park--beautiful waterfall, scenery, rv park, restaurant. Nearby Crossville has an alpaca farm and a structure known as the Minister's Treehouse--have to see to believe.
8. Memphis, TN--Beale Street, BBQ, Graceland, The Peabody Hotel where you must see the Ducks as they make their daily entrance to spend the day in the lobby fountain!
9. Vicksburg National Military Park, MS
10.Since it's my home state--here's a few other places in MS that I would suggest--The Natchez Trace, The Blues Trail including Morgan Freeman's Ground Zero Restaurant, Tupelo to see Elvis' old home & museum, and my town of Columbus--home of Tennessee Williams and Friendship Cemetery which inspired the poem 'The Blue and the Gray'

We have done 2,3,5,7,8 - all worth adding to ones Bucket list.

We saw one of my wifes last fall - Redwoods of CA and Shelter Cove. Doing one of mine this summer - Glacier NP. Will do Mt Rushmore and Yellowstone on the way.

I seem to always end up in the high country along the BLUE RIDGE of VA-TN-AL-GA-NC-SC.

Lots of nice camping off the power grid sites in this area with great forest service roads feeding them.
