We've visited a lot of the places already mentioned--here's a few I can add:
1. St Augustine, FL
2. Weeki Wachee Springs State Park, FL (home of the mermaids and manatees)
3. Mt Airy, NC (Mayberry) a delight if you're an Andy Griffith fan
4. the waterfalls in Transylvania County, NC
5. the Cherohala Skyway from Tellico Plains, TN to Robbinsville, NC (be sure to visit Joyce Kilmer Forest along the way)
6. Monroeville, AL if you loved 'To Kill a Mockingbird'. The Courthouse used as the model for the one in the movie will make you feel you have stepped into the movie. In April each year, you can attend a play of TKAM (wonderful-we've done that). Also lots of Harper Lee/Truman Capote memorabilia.
7. Cumberland Mountain State Park--beautiful waterfall, scenery, rv park, restaurant. Nearby Crossville has an alpaca farm and a structure known as the Minister's Treehouse--have to see to believe.
8. Memphis, TN--Beale Street, BBQ, Graceland, The Peabody Hotel where you must see the Ducks as they make their daily entrance to spend the day in the lobby fountain!
9. Vicksburg National Military Park, MS
10.Since it's my home state--here's a few other places in MS that I would suggest--The Natchez Trace, The Blues Trail including Morgan Freeman's Ground Zero Restaurant, Tupelo to see Elvis' old home & museum, and my town of Columbus--home of Tennessee Williams and Friendship Cemetery which inspired the poem 'The Blue and the Gray'
