Florida "noseeums" distress

This may be an unusual inquiry,
but perhaps someone can provide some advice.
We are finishing a three week stay on Pine Island in Florida. My wife is allergic to the noseeum bites and she has been bitten many times while we have been here. We are scheduled to leave here Sunday and go to Okeechobee for a week, and then on to St. Augustine. If the the bugs are just as bad in those places we are going to cancel outer plans and head home to Michigan on Sunday.
Does anyone know whether or not these bugs are as bad in the rest of Florida as there are Here? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

When I was stationed at FT Stewart, GA, they were a huge problem there (often called "sand fleas"). FT Stewart was home to the 24th Infantry Division at the time. The troops bought Avon Skin-So-Soft by the gallon. This seemed to be the most effective at keeping those aggravating little things away. There were many jokes about a heavy mechanized division going to the field smelling like a French bordello...

We've spent October through April herefor the last nine years. To date, I've been bitten twice by mosquitoes and once by what I assumed was a noseeum, but that's unverified. Maybe it's because we usually have a nice gentle breeze blowing through from the ocean five miles west. Of course, I wasn't bitten in the RGV either, but I attribute that to the wind -- wind so strong that it pushed me 1/10th of a mile without pedaling! We ended that stay four weeks early and made a beeline for Florida where we're been ever since. Bug bites? Heck, they happen anywhere in season -- just less here in IBE where the Imperial River is always moving water.

Coleman came out with a new product two years ago, SkinSmart. Can be purchased at Walmart. We have found in bad no-see-ums, one can will last a week for two people. Good for the mo's also. DEET does not work no matter how strong!

We've spent the last 5 winters in Central Florida surrounded by lakes. Never had a bug problem except the mosquitoes that come out at dusk.

For those allergic to the bites, none of those things will help very much. For me, lots of bites require Prednisone. I bought some of these online: Therapik

They work at least 24 hours on a bite. The heat inactivates the protein in the bug's saliva.

When we moved to Texas my wife got bit up on no-seeums; I thought we would have to sell our new house. I looked on Amazon and bought this stuff and it worked wonders! Look at the reviews and don't let those bugs tell you where to go. It is currently on sale too! Good luck, I've been there.

With the weather patter the way it has been the last week. try going a little farther north. Savannah and the Islands are in the 70's to 80's daytime, nights in the 50's and 60's.
The next 10 days are likely to stay near those levels according to Accuweather.

We are in Orange City and have not had any bugs flying but the real tiny ants have been a problem on one site but not the other one we have been on. Try the areas between Orlando and Daytona.

I can't help you on your request, but if you get a "thermacell" you can stay any place in Florida and the no-seeums and mosquitoes won't bother you

I discovered them when I visited Florida and for relief I'd use a suntan lotion with lots of aloe in it to reduce the itching. Worked for several hours per application. I'd put it on just before bed and get a good nights sleep.

Than occasionally some kind of pain relief like an OTC antihistamine would help reduce the itching.

But mostly, I try to spend the most time in the desert areas in the winter. Away from 'ponds' that breed things like that.

We bought some stuff called No Knatz at St George Island. It was the only thing that phased them. We found it at a fishing supply place. It was all natural, with the main ingredient being lemon grass.
