Well now the windy season is in full force, 30 mph off the gulf 24 hours a day...After a week arthritis and cabin fever sets in. This is the source of energy for the tornado season in Oklahoma and Kansas. Family keeps us south this year.

Don't sit in your RV. Get out and walk around a Mall or big box store. What about an indoor flea market or even a restaurant meal and Cinema? Or take the opportunity to get rid of the stuff that seems to collect in the draws and cabinets in most RVs. There are ways to keep from getting cabin fever. ๐Ÿ™‚

Just as many as I caught in TX.

LOL.

Of course, fresh TX wild gulf shrimp is worth the trip alone. Oysters in Port Lavaca ain't half bad either.

I am a Winter Texan and spent last winter (Nov - April) in Rio Hondo and its hard to beat wild gulf shrimp and fresh caught Speckled Sea Trout. The 28 mph SE breeze was nice also.

Look Rockport sucks. Wind, rain, evil minded people, high prices, wind, rain, wind rain, high prices. Why in the world would anyone even think of going to Rockport is beyond me.

I think it has a lot to do with where you are from. I live in western ND. I also long haul trucked for a number of years. I noticed how much LESS the wind was east of the Mississippi River, versus west of it.

So, if you are from the west, the wind does not seem too bad. If from the east, it is really windy.

Cannot tell how many times wind warnings were up in the east for 25 mph winds, and at home, 25 mph winds are just keeping the air fresh!

Apparently you've never been to the RGV! ๐Ÿ™‚ It was very windy this past winter and lots of people (with smaller rigs) complained of cabin fever.

Hmmm, We have spent the last 8 winters there and the wind was seldom an issue where we were.

Although I am a native Texan and I think Texans talk just fine, we ended up spending the winters in AZ.
Wind occasionally - once in a great while pretty strong - but I leave the awning out most of the time. Sure couldn't do that in Port Isabel TX.

Wind Map of the US.

Just place your mouse over the location you want more information on.

Remember Florida has the Gulf stream working for it, Texas does not.
I can zoom in to get a close up of areas. Is there any way to zoom back out without closing the link?

John and Joey, that's is a really neat wind map you linked to..Thanks

You're Welcome.

I actually use it when I head south and north. At $4/gallon it's nice to have a tail wind. ๐Ÿ™‚

I'm staying in Florida for this summer....send some of that wind my way so I don't melt in this heat.

RockHillManor, I've never been to Florida. Does Florida not have a breeze (winds) coming off the Gulf or the Atlantic?

I would think, it being a peninsula, there would have to be Thermal Circulation happening with a sea breeze or on shore wind & a land breeze or off shore wind. But numerous times people from Florida say it is not windy there as compared to the Texas Gulf Coast or the RGV.

Why does Thermal Circulation not work in Florida?

It's a big learning curve here for us Northerner's. For a flat land peninsula it has a lot of micro climates across the whole state!

I spent one summer in Leesburg inland. NO wind nada, zip, bugs, hot and did I mention hot? Thought I would just die.

Then I stayed a couple of months just outside Leesburg further west and found there is a thing called a sea breeze!

The closer you are to the coasts you will feel the sea breezes. Inland no, unless the sea breezes decide to collide there which just means down pours of rain for 20 minutes and then it goes right back up to hot. :R

It's like a convection oven. There's a fan blowing inside that oven but it stays burning hot!

Interesting state, real interesting. :B
