New England Campgrounds

Hello all !!

We are from Mass.. south of boston .. been camping for many years with friends. Looking this year for a nice clean / quiet campground with full hook ups... looking for "adult" camping meaning we won't have our grown kids with us. Looking for that hidden gem of a campground. We will consider any where in new england. We KNOW we are late looking for a place in July ~~~ but just thought I would throw it out there .. if any one can recommend places.. and WHY they recommend it....

Also, I am on google maps, look at comments first... and if I find a bad review I move on .. I know that's not the right thing to do ... head is spinning .. what do YOU guys do ?!?!?

repeat visit and they had sites !!!!!

In mass we camp at Wampatuck state campground...On the Cape Nickerson state campground, Adventure Bound in Truro ..non have full hookups...in VT I recommend a very quite campground in Townsend called Bald Mountain ..on the west river..area full of VT type fun..

Try DORSET RV IN DORSET,VERMONT A VERY QUIET PLACE WITH A SWIMMING HOLE IN A MARBLE QUARRY ACROSS THE STREET. THEN THERES ACES HIGHIN EAST LYME CONN RIGHT OFF I-95 VERY CLEAN AND QUIET WITH LOTS TO SEE ALONG I-95 LIKE MYSTIC SEAPORT, NAUTILUS SUBMARINE MUSEUM OR CASINOS AT MOHEGAN OR FOXWOODS FOR THE BUFFETS ONLY OF COURSE. We stayed at "The Bluffs" a few years ago. It's mostly seasonals with well-maintained rigs and a few transient sites. Lots of amenities but we were gone most of the time sightseeing and didn't take advantage of them.

I agree, I don't see an issue with the complainers or all roses type reviews as long as they are consistent. As we all know everyone see's things differently. But this leads into my next point. The profiles on RVPR makes it easy to identify the reviewers that have a agenda by what info or lack of info that is on the reviewers profile, a very useful tool in my opinion.

Our favorite 2 campgrounds for adults in New England are:
1.Lake Forest RV Resort in East Wakefield NH.
2.Wild Duck Rv Resort in Scarborough ME

These are our go to places if we want a quiet weekend.Or now that we are both retired a few days in the middle of the week.Neither place has a pool.

Wild Duck fills up fast with seasonals who come every year.In the summer we do find that it is completely filled. Easier to get a spot in spring and fall.There are no scheduled activities that I know of.

Lake Forest is a place where one can buy a lot and put a park model on plus they also have may seasonals who come back every year so they are often filled but we have always been able to get a spot there.They also have a nine hole golf course and quiet kinds of activities during the summer..aka book club, coffee hours, pot luck dinners bocci tournaments etc.

We have been going to both these places for many years and the owners (Chris at Wild Duck and Judy and Dave at Lake Forest know us and always try to fit us in if possible.

We usually do a first trip of the season and then a last trip at Lake Forest. It is located on Great East Lake which has an A rating. Great East Lake is partly in NH and partly in Maine. Its an easy drive to North Conway and Lake Winnipesaukee and Wolfboro NH. Also an excellent bike or walking trail from Fernald Station into Wolfboro along Lake Wentworth..another class A lake.
Wild Duck is located on a marsh and not very far from Old Orchard Beach and Portland.There is also a beautiful bike path along the marsh one way and into Old Orchard Beach the other way.There is also a canoe/kayak rental place right on the marsh and lots of great seafood restaurants around.


Lake Forest does let grandchildren in and has a grandparent weekend plus Judy told us if we wanted to bring our 3 year old grandson for a night or two in May June or Sept Oct there would be no problem.

Wild Duck NO children at all at anytime.

Although we have never stayed in the adult section as one has to stay at least a week, but we did do a tour there, there is also Danforth Bay which has a family side and an adults only section. It is also within driving distance of the White Mountains and North Conway.The adult section has it own pool and rec hall etc. Very Nice place.

We used RvParkReviews.com for reviews instead of google maps, Yelp or Trip Advisor. I found them most accurate. We don't outright reject a place because of a few bad reviews, we just set our expectations accordingly.

We did Champlain Adult Campground last year. It's a little pricey but a wonderful place. Right on the lake, the Cumberland Head ferry goes right by. The Parisian that runs the place is a hoot. He wanted to know how we found out about his place because he doesn't advertise.

The sites are mostly grass and gravel and the grounds are maintained like a park.

Read ALL reviews and look for patterns, i.e. multiple complaints about the same thing. Then decide if it's something you can deal with.
