We stop in New Mexico on our way to southern California, we've stayed at the KOA or the nearby state park in Carlsbad, Dreamcatcher or the nearby state park in Deming and at the KOA in Las Cruces. All are good stops. These places can get cool and breezy in November or in March when we hit them, we look for 50 amp service to keep the heaters running. The Carlsbad caverns are well worth the visit!

We use Deming as a night over when heading to AZ. We stay at Dream Catcher. There are lots of snowbirds in that campground. Too cold for us, but it is inexpensive.

Someone must be snow birding in Southern NM. All the commercial and state RV parks are pretty full from Nov to March. I have a friend that owns a small commercial park near Caballo Lake and they are taking reservations now.

Temps in Alamogordo are not too bad. We've visited friends there in the winter without significant problems. Also, Elephant Butte area or south, but you might see an occasional snow storm. Not too much and it won't last long. El Paso area also gets cold snaps, but nothing too bad. We've also seen significant snow in Demming, but it didn't last long. Just stay toward the south edge of the state and be aware of your altitude. We've been in Albuquerque in January at 17 degrees with 20-30mph winds coming through Tijeras canyon. Definitely NOT recommended.

We often spend the holidays and/or part of the winter in Las Cruces... but that's my hometown and I still have family there. It's on I-10 but at 3,700 feet, it can still get chilly. We had a few inches of snow there over Christmas in 2015. I also lived in Santa Fe - do not consider wintering in the northern part of the state.
