We need a place to stay for a week. We had thought Casino Queen because of the shuttle, but we need FHU for a week's stay. Suggestions? We would really like to take transit to the Gateway Arch & museum. Thanks!
Just came thru st Louis at Thanksgiving. Casino campground is closed for the winter. St louis RV is a 1 block by 1 block parking lot in a not so good industrial area. Try Cahokia RV Parque. It's on the Illinois side, 4-5 minutes from the Arch. Not the greatest but sufficient with full HU and sure served our purpose of wanting to be close to downtown.
I have heard people say stay away from East St. louis. We have stayed at local park and the Casino Queen several times without any issues. Yes, that side of the river is run down. Casino Queen is a big improvement for the area.
St Louis RV Park has full hookups, but not much of anything more. (Think a parking lot with hookups in an industrial/commercial area in the middle of the city.) They are apparently open year round. Casino Queen opens for the season on March 31st.
The Casino Queen is a nicer campground for sure, but if it's closed when you are to be there...well, that's a pretty significant drawback.
