Re: Air Force Museum

They are adding an entire 4th building. It will open sometime in June or July. Some parts of existing buildings will be shut down at various times during the moving of planes and exhibits.

Suggest you check out the website on specifics.

If open plan and entire day.

On the trip up from FL stop in Lexington....I would stay at Kentucky Horse Park....the RV park (in my opinion one of the nicest RV parks around) and if possible leave time to go to the Ky Horse Park museum and horse shows. It's right next door....same property. Kids will love it if they like horses.

On a side note.....for church history....you might want to ride over to Paris, Ky. Just a few miles east of Paris on Cane Ridge rd. is the Cane Ridge Revival location and the original log church where it started. Not alot to see.....but a nice ride over and back and nice to say you went there. ๐Ÿ™‚

We went to the Underground Railroad Museum. It could be a good tie in to school stuff for the kids.

We also went to the William Howard Taft National Historic Site. Interesting and helpful for our US history lessons. But not terrifically exciting.

Ditto on Jungle Jims! I am trying to find time to justify the 3 hour trip just for it!

Cincinnati has one of the best Zoos in the country, they also have one of the best fine arts programs in the country and the museums are very good. The symphony is one of the best as well as a lot of local places that are family friendly for music.

Coney Island has a small section with rides and one of the largest fresh water pools in the country.

Grade school kids would love Kings Island and the Airforce Museum in Dayton is a great attraction but close to 2 hours from Big Bone Lick.

Newport Aquarium as mentioned before is pretty cool and there are plenty of places to eat there. The Natural History Museum is great in an old dome shaped train station, there's an I-max theater there that usually has good movies and they have many children's programs.

You have to let me know what you think of the Creation Museum and Ark, I live in KY and many are not too happy that tax payer dollars were spent on it. It's a pretty sore spot with many residents in the area and I'm curious to hear what someone not from this area thinks about it.

Lots to do around here, If you do decide to head towards Lexington and the KY Horse Park, about an hour further south east from there is Red River Gorge, Natural Bridge and Daniel Boone National Forest, absolutely gorgeous area and plenty of camping available.

It's still Kings Island. Cedar Point bought it a few years ago.... Frisch's??? Really??? I've had better burgers from McDonald's, and their salad bar is nothing short of miserable.

Depending on the length of your stay at Big Bone you may be able to spend some time at the park itself. The campground isn't real big but it does have a pool, playground, miniature golf, and a fishing pond. Down toward the front of the park is where they keep the buffalo and there is a small museum (like ten minutes tops) to go through. We stayed there last summer and had a decent time. Kentucky Horse Park is where it's at though. Tons of stuff to do there. If you are hell bent on going to Cincy then go to the Newport Aquarium, walk across the Purple People Bridge, and catch a Reds game. If you want to head on up 75 to where I'm at in Dayton, then the Air Force Museum, Carillon Park, and Youngs Jersey Dairy would all be fun places to go.

If you do come to see the USAF Museum Dayton is only an hour drive from Cincy which is the most visited attraction in this area you need to also see Carillon Park which has great exhibits including a lot of the history on the Wright Brothers and a automaton show that is truly amazing. Kids love the show and the exhibits.
