What not to miss at Williamsburg VA.....

We are going to Williamsburg for a couple days over Easter what are the must dos? It will only be 3-4 days. I have no clue what to visit.

For CG recommendations... We stayed at American Heritage twice this past year...Cant say enough about the service and quality of the CG.

We were visiting Williamsburg on the way back north from OBX. Spent better part of a week seeing Jamestown and Williamsburg. Had such a great time, the kiddos convinced us to go back for Thanksgiving. Had our turkey in one of the taverns in the colonial city and loved it!

There are two parts to see at Yorktown, the NPS site and the State of VA Yorktown recreation site. Both worth the time to explore - we spent a day at each.

Jamestown is a NPS site and is also a two day visit.

Trick to save a $ - your tickets to Jamestown NPS is also good for admission to the Yorktown NPS... AND is good for 7 days.

Colonial Williamsburg tickets are good for 3 days... be sure to watch the clock while at CW... everything closes around 5pm or so... try to get there for 9am when they open and spend your 8hrs wisely.

As with anywhere... pack a lunch/snacks and save your time and money during the day... head out and grab a great dinner.

There are multiple tourist traps and places to spend your $$... but it can be done on a budget and still experience what it has to offer.

We actually skipped Busch Gardens... plenty of other opportunities to hit six flags and the like...

OP - we plan on going to Williamsburg for a week in June. No kids, so we're going to do the week-long triangle pass.

Yorktown, Colonial Williamsburg and Historic Jamestowne make up the historic triangle and you can buy a ticket for all three at any of the above. They're linked together by the Colonial Parkway. Jamestown Settlement is worth a visit as well but is owned by the State of Virginia and requires a separate entrance fee. It's a a re-creation. Historic Jamestowne is an archeology site and the actual site of the first landing. I found it fascinating but kids would probably find it boring.

It all depends on what you're looking for, as others have said, Busch Garden which is a theme Park, if you're into that, or if you're into the history, there is Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, a National Park which is the first "Permanent" English settlement, then there is Jamestown Settlement, which has three Ships you can visit, A Powhatan Indian village, and a Settlement Fort.
If you haven't had enough history by then, you can take the Colonial Parkway over to Yorktown for the Revolution History. Or head out Rt 5 for the Berkley, or Shirley Plantations.

Jamestown, Colonial Willuamsburg, Busch Gardens, and Ft Monroe. Be prepared for horrible traffic. Lived in Virginia Beach for about 20 years. Lots to do in the Tidewater area. Not sure if you can take tours anymore since 9-11, but one of the largest Naval ports is located across the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel. Did I say that there will be horrible traffic?

Colonial Williamsburg is very nice and we enjoy it. It is expensive if you buy the ticket, but it is a living town which can be visited without. However, many of the historic buildings would not be open to you, so the ticket would be important for that. No cars allowed. Jamestown is unique with its thatched roofed buildings, etc. There are also three sailing ships there to explore. We also visited Yorktown this past fall. Another town for walking, no cars allowed on some streets. Lots of history.

I'm a big fan of Trip Advisor due to the sheer quantity of reviewers.

I have been to Williamsburg and enjoyed Colonial Wlliamsburg and Busch Gardens. Jamestown also looks cool, but have not personally visited.

Busch Gardens, also there is a big pottery factory there, and there is a replica of an old fort I believe that shows the way they lived in the 1700's in Virginia.
