30 Amp Service ?

I am planning on putting a 30amp RV panel on the outside of my garage which has its own meter fuse box. What's involved for having an electrician put a 30amp service in for my 5er so I can run the ac and stuff is it just a matter of adding a fuse to the panel and the proper wire from the panel to the box on the outside ?

If you're going to pay an electrician anyway why not have him put in 2 circuits, 50A and 30A. Wouldn't add much and then you can go either way plus if a friend or family shows up you do have extra power.

I have the 2 boxes side by side on my storage shed. And beside them is a normal 120v outlet. Got all the bases covered.

Easy to do - I put a 30 amp GFI breaker in our Electrical Breaker panel - had plenty of spare space. My breaker panel is on the outside wall of the garage so it was easy to drill a hole, install some conduit and mount the box on the outside of the garage. Make sure you open the main panel breaker when working in the breaker panel.

It would be an easy install for an electrician too - may be hard to find one for such a small job.

The link from OldBiscuit has all the needed info and ever the correct outlet designations. Give a copy to your electrician. Check when he installs the equipment. Simple and easy.

Check the electrician uses a single breaker.
And let him show you on the meter 120v.

Make sure and remind the electrician that a 30 amp rv outlet is 110 volt.

However you take the wiring through the outside wall make sure it is sealed vermin and waterproof and use an outdoor covered box. We did that when we lived in Maine and it was a great help since we parked our 5'er next to our house and left it plugged in. The trailer's cable was just long enough. Oh, and depending on where you do it be careful with the lawnmower and trimmer!

That's it. Most important part is to shut off the main breaker before you start!!!! Fron there, it is very simple to add a new circuit to an electrical box. You just have to remove the cover, snap out a tab, run your wires, snap in a new circuit breaker and re-install the cover. Minimum 10 guage wire is necessary.
