35 ft wheel and on the road campsites

I know some of you probably get tired of hearing about this,but how hard is it to actually find a campsite on the spur of the moment for a rig this size?

Never had a problem. May have to move the truck off to one side. Aren't many sites that aren't at least 35 feet long.

We've found that making reservations nearly always jinxes the trip. We use online searches and the Trailer Life guide to find parks with sufficient parking, or we simply pull in and see what they have. It's working so far.

Our fiver is 40' and have yet to have an issue getting a sight. We always call ahead to ensure they have a spot big enough for us. Biggest issue we have had is navigaging through some parks andlow tree branches. If we come across a low branch we just talk with the park manager or ranger and either they have trimmed it for us or let us trim it ourselves, we carry a pole saw with us. One thing I've noticed is when I say I have a 40' fiver they think it will fit in a 30' site and end up going back to the office getting another site. I tow a 37' fiver and have a long bed dually TV. I have never had an issue find a place with or without reservations. I stay in both state and private campgrounds and rv parks. If you are unsure just call ahead. I just did a 5100 road trip from Fla to Col to Tx and home and did not have an issue with or without reservations.

Never have had a problem. When we are on the road, we call around noon and check with the parks ahead of us close to our route for a pull thru site. If we want somewhere around home for a weekend or week we make reservations way ahead of the dates usually at the state parks or the COE parks in the SouthEast. We tend to stay away from privately owned due to the lack of space to spread out.

From past experience and during our most recent trip up the Oregon Coast, most campgrounds we visited had at least some sites that were large enough for our 36' TH to get into. Biggest issue for us has always been the height of our rig and trying to navigate around some tight areas with low hanging branches.
Some of the campground apps are helpful in determining which campground will be the most accessible for us. We also picked up a couple of RV camping guides that were very useful.

How long is a board? Lots of different answers depending on where and when. We traveled many thousands of miles with our 34 foot TT and ALMOST never had reservations. The exceptions to this were for traveling over major holidays and even then we could have gotten into private RV parks. So far we've been somewhere every night :). For what it's worth, NONE of those nights have we spent in a retail parking lot :E

never had an issue. Once in a great while we have had to park the truck away from the fiver. Usually we find pull throughs with room for the whole rig - 60'.

Hi:

We did 4+ month trip this past spring & summer with 32+ foot fiver. Campgrounds were very busy. We generally made reservations ahead of time as we traveled. The park folks usually ask about fiver length and # of slides so they can find a good fit for you. We saw many fivers much longer than ours in these campgrounds.

www.woodalls.com has a big rig search option. Search for the city and state, scroll down and select the big rig box, then scroll way down and press the red "filter" button. Once we find campgrounds, we always look them up on www.rvparkreviews.com and look at their websites for descriptions like: Long, level pull thrus and open shady sites. I also use www.googlemaps.com and zoom in to look at the campground location. Works for us.

38' 5er here and so far only had issue at one campground where I had to juggle around the trees for 15 minutes before I got situated. I am sure you will find some places, especially older campgrounds or SPs, that are impossible to set up in. Just be flexible and you should make out just fine. Sometimes not getting into the spot you thought might be best ends up placing you in a spot that is even nicer. Relax, don't rush, just enjoy the adventure.

I also pull a 35ft 5th wheel and there has been a couple of times we couldn't get in where we called but we just keep on calling. Just completed a 8,621 mile trip across the USA and we were only turned down twice and both places it was the weekend and very popular places we were wanting to visit.

Depends. Around here length is not as big of an issue as the three slides are. I can get into a lot of national forest sites, just could never open the slides.
