back-up camera for 5th wheels

I came across a Voyager three camera system that was being used in a 5th wheel. The information given was general, and I would have liked to have seen a video of this product in use. Does anyone have a camera system in their 5th wheel? If so what are your comments on it? The system I saw had a monitor that came with it. Instead of this monitor, could the system be attached to an existing navigation system within the tow vehicle?
Thanks for your time with my questions

I took a wired camera and plugged it into a transmitter. Then I put a receiver in the truck. Now I have a wireless camera for about $150.

You can find the transmitter/receiver on Amazon.com for about $65. You will also need a small inverter for the power supply for each - Radio Shack.

Works great with over 300' of range. Just be sure to get the 8gHz version; because everything uses teh 4gHz - including the microwave.

With mine the night vision is not real great, I mean you can still see with it, but no where near the detail during the day. Another thing I do is turn the brightness way down So I can see better at night.

I noticed that Garmin has come out with a new GPS RV 760 LTM designed for RVs, I may just buy the GPS and add the optional camera

I have the Garmin 760 LTM and the optional BC-20 wireless camera.

I have one similar to this one: http://www.rvcams.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=RBCARVS&Product_Code=70-CH&Categ... I have it on all the time I am towing. It works great and when I have my boat on I can watch my boat too. I strongly recommend one to everyone who tows a fiver or a TT.

I recently purchased a used Arctic Fox 1150 camper, and from my experiences with my Lance 1130 (2001), I am planning to install a wireless voyager rear view camera. Any insight for install would be appreciated. Examples: since the aluminum rear porch is occupied with the rear awning and running lights, no real estate is left to centrally mount the camera. Can the camera bracket be riveted to the fiberglass rear wall --------- above the rear door ? My experience with riveting anything to fiberglass is nil. Replace the central rear running light with the camera ? Where can I gain access to power(even though wireless, the camera requires DC power for transmission) ---------- via the rear porch light switch (above the inside rear door) or the central running light power ? Since I drive my RV with the lights on, the camera would always be operational.

FYI: 10 years ago, on my Lance I was able to install a non-wireless voyager, by attaching the aluminum camera bracket to the rear porch with aluminum rivets, just below the running lights ----------- and routing the 15 foot composite signal and power cable thru rear camper wall and inside cabinets to below the sink (power access and transmission). The transmitter emitted the 3 foot distance through the pass through window to the cab mounted monitor. In contrast to the wireless systems of 10 years ago, interference was not an issue ---------- even next to power stations, broadcast antennas, and commercial trucks. I understand the wireless systems of today have improved dramatically.

I just got a new Arctic Fox and I got a Voyager wireless backup camera installed in it. The one thing I would say is I was thinking of trying to install it on my navigation, but I like the fact that with the monitor that comes with it, I can see whats behind me even when I am driving, where as the navigation only displays the rear view when I am backing up.

danrn,

If you have factory navigation, what vehicle do you have. Knowing that would help some of us help you.

For example, if you have a 2003-2007 Classic GM truck and you have the factory navigation, I could point you to very specific parts and instructions on how to get camera views put into that system.

You guys got me thinking. My backup camera is in my tailgate which I remove when towing because I use a V gate. When the stock gate is removed, one should be able to run a connection from the unused harness to a camera on the fiver. Ya think?

If you Nav system has a video input it will work. That is how I use my GPS for my back-up camera. You will need a switch to send power to the camera and that will make your Nav system go to your back-up camera.

It all depends on your nav system. It may not accept another input, but then again, it may. Check with your truck manufacture.

I have seen some units with the cameras displaying on the nav unit but my understanding is it takes a lot of modification IF the nav unit isn't built to use multiple cameras. I have a Camco unit with the capability on the monitor to use 4 cameras at once(splitting the screen) or roll through them. I just mount the monitor over the nav screen with 3M industrial velcro when needed.
