My wife and I will be new to RVing. We pulled a popup to Idaho 20 years ago but not like the unit we have our eye on now. We are looking at a 34’ KZ MXT-303 Toy Hauler that has curb weight of 5,770 lbs. and a GVWR of 8,800 lbs.
The TH is a '13 F-150, SCAB, MaxTow, EcoBoost, 365 HP, 420lbs. torque.
The F-150 has:
GVW 5,650, GVWR 7,500, front GAWR 3,600, rear GAWR 4,050
Payload 2,017
GCVWR 16,900
Hitch weight rating 1,150 lbs.
Max loaded trailer weight rating 11,300
Also, will have before the TH:
Firestone Air Bags, LT e-rated tires, Propride 3P WDH, and Billstein 5100 shocks
We will be hauling a 1500 Goldwing. We will be needing the minimum amount of water so no extra weight there. I figure about 8,200 lbs. tongue weight when loaded. That would be 984 lbs at 12%.

Does this sound like a good combination to you? Am I missing anything?

We just sold our 2011 Coachmen 295 RLDS. 6200# dry weight and 34' bumper to ball. Towed it over 20,000 miles in just over 3 years. Reese Dual cam WD hitch and Prodigy braking system. And all with a 2004 F-150 FX4, 9600# max tow capacity.
What did we just order?......a KZ MXT 303, 5770# dry and 34' Bumper to ball. And I'll still be towing with the same F-150. I must be doing something right, because I JUST changed the factory brake pads on the truck at 145,000 miles. 1/2 of those miles are towing. With the Edge Evolution, I get 13 MPG towing. The same MPG my buddy gets with his Dodge Dually 3500, but instead of $3.50/gal, he pays well over $4.00/gal. I may not tow up a steep grade pass at 70mph, but I'm well within the vehicle's capabilities and capacities set by Ford. Not some RV Dealer, not "Uncle Joe," and certainly not someone in a forum.

As long as you're within the factory rating for your TV, have a properly set WD hitch and braking system, and drive like you actually care about your vehicle, you'll be fine. I worry more about the idiots I see driving down the interstate with the front wheels almost off the ground and the back bumper almost hitting bottom on their 3/4 or 1 ton because they don't think they need a WD hitch or don't have a clue how to set it up properly. Even saw a guy at a rest stop with the lights/Brake cable jumpered to fit the 4 pin flat on his 2500 truck. Pretty sure he didn't have trailer brakes hooked up.:S

BTW.......Now I remember why it's been almost 3 years since I've been in the forums. The handful of folks throwing a fit :M at someone who's doing it by the numbers but it's not the way THEY would do it.:h

F150, 34' trailer.............not on my life.

The weights you are seeing for the trailer are totally empty weights, no accessories, no clothes, food or your 900# GW.

You need more truck. And I'm not the weight police.

GVWR of the trailer 8800lbs. That's loaded ain't it.

yup. According to the OP's numbers for that 34'. 8800 GVRW.

Yep it will pull it fo sure. How you going to stop it?. Thats a big trailer even for a 3500.

by supplying energy to the trailer brakes. Just my guess. Most rv trailers have their own braking system.

What if the trailer brakes Fail?

The same thing that would happen to you. Your truck is not designed to stop the weight of your 5er over the GVWR of your truck, any more than my truck is designed to stop the weight of my TT over the GVWR of the truck. The truck brakes are only designed to stop the GVWR of the TRUCK, NOT the trailer, and not the GCVWR. Sooner you learn that. the better off you will be.

His trailer is within his factory towing weights, is yours? And do you really believe a 8800lb trailer is a lot for a 3500 truck?

I am pulling the same length with a 3/4 ton truck. Difference is my trailer has 3 axles. IMO HUGE difference in handling and stopping. I would get real world weights on that trailer. I have a hard time believing that a trailer that long doesn't weight more even if it is not a wide body. I am in know way saying you shouldn't go this route. Just make sure you know exactly what that trailer weights before you sign on the dotted line.

It is windy here. Just in case I forget, I look to the foothills and see a sea of red blinking lights indicating each windmill tower.

I pull a 28 foot Desert Fox with a 2500HD for work. It is a handful in the wind. Be sure to watch your speed.

lenght means nothing(insert joke). Thats a huge misconception about towing. Its all about whats inside that counts. (Insert another joke).
