Good Deal ?

Hey everyone! Long story short. I sold my TT back last September and I am now looking to get into a 5er. My wife and I have decided on a floor plan and have been shopping around for the best deal. So far, I have two deals on the table at different dealerships. One of the deals is where I bought my TT back in 2012.

1st deal is a 2014 keystone sprinter st324fwbhs. MSRP 44,836.00 Final price 33,996.00.

2nd deal is a 2014 keystone cougar 330rbk. MSRP 50,073.00 Final price 33,767. This is where I bought my TT.

I offered 31,000.00 Final price on the first deal and 30,644.68 Final price on the second deal

Did I low ball them? They seemed not to care for the prices I offered but I thought they where more than reasonable offers.

What do you guys and gals think?

I'm in no hurry to buy. I have a trip planned in October to Topsail Hill in Florida so I have some time.

Thanks everyone

You probably won't repeat that deal. Dead of winter = slow sales and a closeout model to boot.

If you gotta buy now pony up the money and go on. Otherwise wait for February and another closeout model.

Good one Cliff!! I always thought it meant Mr Salesmans Ridiculous Price..... HeHe

I'm in no hurry. Got a trip planned in early October so I still got some time to play around.

Lets say dealer cost is 50k. He marks it up 65% MSRP 82,500.

You show up and want 35% off MSRP 53k.

He made a cool 3k and if he sells a lot of those units at that price he likely won't be in business long.

Here is another hint. These dealers have to pay employees, huge electric bills and float units that have been sitting there for months and months.

I think some people can't math. If you walk in and pay sticker you're a sucker and got screwed but walking out with 20-30% depending on brand a pretty good deal.

Not going to argue that. The problem is that you just can't figure out what the markup really is on a particular brand or unit so you don't know what you can really get away with.

Like I said my last camper was 45% off their MSRP and that was out the door. Taxes, fees everything.

Will I have a repeat of that same deal? Who knows? Maybe? Maybe not? But I am 38% off MSRP on a deal that I made yesterday.

Just waiting for the hitch to be thrown in:B

FWIW, I bought my 5th wheel from Holman's last year. I had them order the unit I wanted, then drove up from Florida (2 days) to get it. I camped on their lot for a couple days going over everything and then camped my way back down to Florida. No big deal.

I treated it as a small vacation, which would be my advice to you.

Baloney!

Sounds like the mega-buck retailer..."Needless Markup"!!..:R

Or something a salesperson would tell you, ROTFL.

OP:
You said you're in no hurry.
If that's the case - get on the Internet, find the best price -anywhere in the USA- if you *order* the unit (not "dealer stock").

Then get it on paper.

Now, shop that price around to dealers closer to you.
Decide if you're willing to travel to save $xxx - or will a closer dealer come close?

If you must have a unit "now" you are in competition with everyone else who is looking (and also "negotiating").
Depending on demand, the dealer can pick and choose (wait for) the deal *he* likes.

"The dealer needs to make a profit to be there to service you".

YIKES! - what if you're not "there"..:h
Is the dealer is going to "service you" when you're 3K miles away?.:S

And....Many dealer's "service" is a a joke!
You'll find out if it's good or bad - *after* the dealer has your money..:S

MSRP: *some* manufacturers post MSRP for the unit & options.
That's reliable info.
A dealer's price sheet with MSRP isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

Hang in there, and happy negotiating!..:B

True. But when the unit is marked up 45-50% plus manufacture to dealer discount and you offer them 35% of their MSRP for the unit I believe you have offered a fair deal.

They would be making at least 10% on the deal.

I have seen lots of invoices and paperwork for dealers from manufacturers. Markups are all over the place. I have seen them as low as 32% as high as 55% and I would say average is 45%.

I just had a salesman the other day exclaim that they were going to lose money on a offer that they gave to me. Really? How do you stay in business if you are losing money?

Same dealer sold me a unit 2 years ago at 45% off the msrp and that was out the door. All I had to do was tell them I was going somewhere else to deal and they lowered the price instantly.

That was in February though and a left over model.

Just drove 280 miles to Northgate RV Center in Ringgold, GA to look at a 2014 Keystone Laredo 335TG.

MSRP $48,000.00
Sale price $35,999.00

I showed them a sale price of $29,990 from Holman RV printed from their website and verified by the sales manager for the exact same model.

Salesman was in disbelief and went and showed it to the owner.

Owner said that Holman RV was in Ohio and his shipping charges are way less. No more than 500 miles difference

Man, Northgate sure gets screwed on shipping!! 😉

I gotta start transporting rvs for a living. $6,000.000 to ship from Goshen, IN to Ringgold, GA.

I would only need to make one run a month and I would have it made!!

Salesman said the sale price was it plus taxes and fees. Best they could do!!

Sorry for the rant but I just had to let it out!!

I got up and ran out!!!

You can always have it shipped fro Holmann to you. we did this and used the site U ship. A very professional gent charged us about $1 a mile to deliver the RV to us....
